Ternion build, Spirit + ?
I started playing an elemental ternion build but cant decide what second mastery to use.

These are probably my options:

Rogue: Offers confusion and slowdown on the ternion attacks, but pretty little else IMO.

Earth: Earth enchantment and Core Dweller seem to be the interesting picks here.

Dream: Probably a no brainer if playing a vitality damage build, but the only real good thing for elemental build seems to be Trance of Wrath for the -resistances. Not sure if I can survive being so close to the enemies to apply it though.

Storm: Storm Nimbus and Squall (for late game archer groups) seem nice, just like the wisp.

Has anyone tried one of these combinations in the AE and can tell me their experience?

Diviner (Spirit/Dream) is still a good choice, even after the toning down of the life reduction (Harrowing, etc.). You'd probably want to build it very tanky so you can get close to mobs. It's more like a battlemage kind of playstyle for ideal results, at least in my view, rather than a traditional caster.

The Oracle (Spirit/Storm) is still fairly powerful. It's always been one of the top builds ever since the game came out, though it also has always been squishy. It's about who kills the opponent first, you or the monsters. :) Personally, it's too twitchy/squishy for my taste, but I do play a lot in duo games, so it's a bit harder.

I don't have a clear opinion on the Conjurer (Spirit/Fire), especially after the changes to Earth mastery. It's one of the builds I plan to try out soon, especially since I found that the Core Dweller can tank really well in epic act4 and early in legendary (didn't get further yet with my summoner, got distracted by the HC achievements), though only after a heavy investment of points (base skill and two of the synergies).

Any of those.

I personally like the Conjurer because it is flexible (staff/spells/pets) and has a nice theme to it.
Oracle is very powerful as well, if a bit squishy. Dream has better defense.

And Mandrake confusion on a triple AoEs is just silly against most regular monsters, even at halved chance. Especially if you add traps to the mix. Warlocks like to have sadistic fun with the weak. :)

Thanks for the answers.

You dont make choosing easy for me ^^

Is a diviner (who probably uses mainly vitality damage) still viable in legendary difficulty boss fights or vs undead? If I read the patch notes correctly the resistances vs vitality damage were buffed a lot, with no way to lower them.
I had one years ago and he was really fun to play so Im thinking about it.

Its the same with a warlock, trash mobs are probably no problem, but what about bosses on legendary?

Im only playing TQ a few hours a week with a friend, so I want to prevent finding out in legendary that my build wont work any more.

Diviner is not good enough, while the game will not be added more staves with basic vitality damage. Soothsayer (Spirit+Nature) the strongest ternion-based character.

Ternion users may not be the fastest "kill boss in 2 hits" farm runners anymore, but everyone knows that was stupidly OP.

Undead should be no problem with Spirit Ward & Bane. You don't have to use vitality staves as a Diviner, and even if you do weapon switching is a thing.
And you alrady have two anti-boss tools in Spirit itself with the Lich and Outsider.

The only other "boss killer" skill I see in the others would be the Nightmare's gaze, which now works like a second Soul Blight against single targets.
But all masteries have ways to help whittle bosses down. Traps, Eruptions... and Spell Breaker helps a lot against many champion and hero monsters with nasty abilities.

I would just go with the one you like most, really.

I am currently playing a full offense conjurer at lvl 43 and am in about the middle of act 4 normal. I am squishy as hell (currently drinking potions almost as fast as I get them), but I can oneshot most normal enemies even with the 6 player difficulty mod. also, the AoE I have is amazing. ternion with arcane lore means I can oneshot whole hordes of monsters, while eruption is for even larger groups or tougher enemies/bosses or even both. in epic my core dweller should finally start being useful so I stop dying so much.
definitely not a no-death build, but still fun nonetheless.

I made a diviner a few weeks ago after I deleted my oracle and in my opinion the diviner is a million times better. The abilities just seem to mesh together so much better.
