Attributes
Hello everyone,

I recently started playing Titan Quest again after not playing since it first came out. I'm a little out of date and have forgotten a lot of the stuff that I learnt while playing the first time round.

I'm planning to make two characters and have one Harbinger and the other a Conqueror. I have looked up guides and found what I feel is the best way to go with the skills, though not sure what order to spend them in and that could make a difference.

My main question, sorry to digress is how do I spend my attribute points as I level up both these classes. I gather that it's mainly strength and dexterity that I need to focus on. As I get two points each time I level up, do I put one point in each of strength and dexterity or do I spend them differently.

I really don't want to get to end game and find that I'm short of one because I spent one for one to keep them even, when I could've put more into the other.

Thank you for your replies and any help you can give in advance.

I spend enough points to be able to stay alive early in the game, then I start to save them for when I get some equipment that I want to use and don't have the stats to use. That way if I need to put 10 points in strength or whatever, I can do it. Also don't forget that some items appear on the ground up to a few minutes after you slay an enemy or open a chest. I always run back and look around after a fight. I also redo areas that have chests, nicer items seem to appear the second and up play thru. Have fun.

I found it best to first climb the Mastery bars, only investin in skills like the base attacks, and spending one point on skills I want to build later. This way you get the stat boosts from your masteries early, and those stats carry you up to mid-Act 3. Toss in some +Skills gear and you get them to working power, and you can get comfortable with your combat "rota". Then, once you got the Mastery bars completed, build up the skills you like best and use most.

Attribute points: Take a look at TQ-DB[www.tq-db.net] to find out what stst demands your choice endgame gear has and plan accordingly. Also, once you got the stats to get into your midgame gear, keep some ten stat points unspent, as a reserve to get the stats to put on some new shiny thing you might want to wear. Lastly, I never spend points on HP - many of the hard-hitting attacks have a ReduceEnemyHealth component, against which a high HP pool doesn't help at all.

STR + DEX is reasonable. Many guides recommend splitting 2STR-1DEX, but I don't really like that. High DEX is IMHO more relevant - DEX gives you extra OA and DA, and buffs pierce damage, so especially with your Harbinger, that helps quite a bit.

Great advice from above.
Save points, only use enough for gear to begin with.
If planing to go epic/ legendary there are quest through the game which give a little extra.
I believe by Legendary an extra 48 strength you should have gained.

For both of those builds I would go for more DEX than STR ( I like to play a bit tankier than most ). You do not really see any diminishing returns on DEX unless in Legendary and well over 1500+ DA
The Harbinger will be a little harder to do that for because Dream gives no STR, but it does have "Premonition" which is nice.

~ 2 Str : 1 Dex is a fairly common approach to melee builds through you could probably tweak it a bit to be a bit more Dex oriented if you want, it won't make a huge deal overall. FYI, Str = more physical damage, Dex = more pierce, bleeding, poison damage and Offensive and Defensive Ability.

By end game you'll need ~650 Str to equip the highest Str gear available. More Str also gives you more physical damage which should be a sizable amount of both Conqueror and Harbinger builds. For Dex I'd recommend at least enough to equip Legendary Stonebinder's Cuffs as those are solid for pretty much every build, they require 435 Dex if I'm recalling correctly. Strength is easier to boost from items as you get items with the 'Hale' fix to boost Str and Health a lot while no similar easy Dex fix available.

Harbinger will probably want to go swords for their very fast speed as I expect you'd dual wield with it and more speed = more dual wield procs. Swords have a pierce ratio so will do pierce damage by converting from physical and therefore benefit from Dex but sword pierce ratio tends to be lower than spears in general I think. I think physical damage bonus from Str is more important. For Conqueror you may go swords as well for very fast speed to trigger more shield procs or

As for OA/DA from Dex, 1 Dex = 1 OA/DA. Generally more efficient to get OA/DA from items if possible than straight up Dex imo. If you have enough Dex to equip Stonebinder's you should be fine. Warfare chars also have Weapon Training and Battle Rage for OA and both Defence and Dream have skills to boost DA (Dodge Attacks from Warfare also helps against melee). Projectiles and other attacks not affected by DA are usually a bigger worry than melee enemies from my experience.
