my advice: Batter, one point, put it on RMB, then go straight for rend armor beefing the mastery, and put one point. This will make the batter skill hit three enemies and will make you go faster on the early stage. Next: Shield charge is great to go fast into melee range, three points later in disruption for multi-target.
Just go 2 in Masteries and 1 into a skill.
Pump a few more into Battle Awareness and Armour Handling as you go up.
A Defense build is all about your shield and proc's, but they are not that important till you hit act 3, so just make sure Batter, Shield Recovery and Shield charge are started by then.
Before you hit Typhon have a point or 2 into Colossus Form.
Even though I love Defense, I would suggest starting with the secondary mastery, especially to gain some extra damage and speed. This of course depends on the build you are looking at.
Warden the toughest and great to play, Templar most fun.
