lure him away from his spawnpoint, so you can fight him alone without his minions. and dont be shy to spam healing potions.

Pay attention when he raises up , because he use a mellee attack that causes bleeding dmg, use as well, a enchantment for your weapon, lighting zeus or prometheus flame will be efficient versus Nessus, even you have 1 piece of the relic.

Get a few levels up before going for him. Get a good shield, a green one or epic (blue). Get some good damage, some green sword and you should have no problems.

All the bosses in the game have a certain point they go up to some are quite long here you can lure him as far as near the camp if you do this and keep him just dashing back and forth you can have time to heal and he will not have recovered all his health, you can do this with most monsters except the ones where you have a locked in fighting area.

Just buy a lot of hp potions and spam them. If you have a low damage mastery start, it may take a while.

If you find +damage rings with lvl 3 requirement or attach zeus lightning bolt to a lvl 3 weapon, you can keep them in your stash and help boost new characters.

My characters are almost all ranged-weapon, but the best way I found to get him was to lure him and a crowd of his troop away from where he appears. He'll turn back after you run past the first clump of trees to the South, but the troops with him will continue to follow you. Take them out. Do that until you've whittled down his support, then go in for the kill. Eventually, you might have to melee, so Health Potions are definitely your friend. The main thing he has going for him is his troop, they deal a lot of damage if you're not able to focus on them, so take as many of them out as you can before you tackle Nessus.

You might find this wiki useful, it's alphabetical, so Nessus is down a way from the top in the "N"s:

Also be careful because sometimes he will use a Blue Quality Sword which will hurt. It's a rare event but it's happened to me twice on a new game.

What I do is slowly nudge my character toward him from a south to north direction. The moment he blows that horn(HEH!) I turn and run away. He will usually give chase while his minions hit the 'out of view limit' and turn back to their territory sooner rather than later leaving it 1 on 1 fight. Afterwards I can treat his minions as regular mobs.

Another trick I do is look at the Buff Shrine near the Spartan Camp. If it's Frost, Thorns, Mastery, or Battle, I save it for Nessus. I clear out the valley then head back to the shrine, activate it then head back to Nessus and draw him for one on one fight. Having +Movement, Herme's Relic, or that Runemaster Lv. 1 Skill that gives 10% Movement will help to get to Nessus faster after activating the Shrine although it can be done without speed buffs if you know the lay of the land.

Also could not beat this boss as level 6 warrior or hunter, both with "normal" gear. Don't like to spam potions or the like.
Easy solution for me was to lure him to the guard north of him (just run from south to north. let him come close so he will chase you - sometimes you have to return a bit if Nessus stops to follow) and let them do the dirty work. Those guards are immortal. If you like you can "help" them a bit as Nessus ignores you, once the guards are in fight.
You can take out his minions first, if you want.

My solution is always grinding level or two. If can't take him using strategy having more raw power should be fine.
