Conqueror compared to other classes?
I see Conqueror is very commonly talked about, but I never really found it any good myself. It generally relies on throwing down battlestandards and colossus forms to get the same level of durability and damage output that most of my basic builds do passively.

What kind of DPS do people generally have with their Conqueror builds in normal, epic, and then legendary modes by the time of beating the final boss?

Generally I run around with builds that will have 2k DPS by act 2 in normal mode, will have life leech in the hundreds per second, attack damage % converted to life on hit so high that I max health whenever I hit living enemies, characters that passively regenerate over 500 health per second just in normal mode (legendary mode it would be WAY higher due to better relics and items), ternion attack mages that just act as street sweepers, etc. Most of the game is just me walking up to bosses and clicking on them as their attacks cannot even phase me or running glass cannon kiting builds that never even get hit to begin with.

I'm just wondering what does Conqueror bring to the table that makes people use it more often? Did they just want to experience the game being more difficult like I do in some playthroughs with suboptimal builds?

its one of the tankiest builds in the game which is good for new players meaning you dont need good gear to be able to survive fights and he backs it up with good dps as well...but imo he is all alone in fights with barely any pets (only ancestral horn which has a very long cooldown)...his dps cannot compare to the higher dps dex builds...and some other builds can become tankier but usually those req much higher quality gear to be able to compete in legenary dps wise or have oa problems (usually oa problems like warden)

edit: and if you havent seen chars that can do comparable dps and have pets which you can boost via bonus to pets while maintaining decent survivability, ya conquerer is easy to build which is why i see it recondmended but other chars have higher potential...

I played several conquerors self-found through legendary. One thing I like about it thematically is that it's that it's a 'pure' build. From a Man/Max perspective: Talking about offense: The onslaught tree with harmstring especially is overpowered and will carry you. Defensively (unless you have OP gear - then every build is viable): Deep in legend if you want to survive you either need a shield, or you need to be a ranged character, so defense mastery just perfectly fits the build since you're going to use a shield anyway.

I've honestly found no mastery tankier than Spirit, no gear required, Death Chill Aura is incredably powerful with the slow and the damage reduction, lets you generally get first hits on anyone attacking you, which means you're generally already regening health from life leech (which also gets boosted by necrosis) or you've killed them since ravages of time also heavily weakens armor.

There's also spirit ward in case of fighting undead which makes you extra durable against them while also killing them faster.

Threw Spirit and Defense together one time and it was extremely tanky, put Spirit and Warfare together and it put out pretty high damage, put Rune and Spirit together and its extremely tanky and puts out huge damage.

Basically DeathChill is a gamechanger, you just take in so much less damage and put out so much more due to weaker armor and resists that it doesn't need to have as high DPS or durability numbers to be better though also doesn't have any problem having DPS or durability as high.

i find nature to be tankier imo even more then spirit, though spirit or having a spirit ally maxes out protection vs undead with spirit ward buff...and ya deathchill aura is one of the best moves for survivablitty and if you do phys damage then it massively increases your dps due to the armor rating nuke it does...and all builds that attack enemies in anyway even with elemental can enjoy the highest life steal numbers in the game cause necriosis destroys enemy life leech resist unless they are immune increasing survivabilty a lot...

nature though plague gives very sim to deathchill reduction in damage and slows them at long range and it spreads...heart of the oak is +90% max hp making any char tankier, and you can throw out brair ward for santuary for damage absorb...then theres regrowth which heals about 3000 hp and can reach .6 sec cooldown with 80% cooldown reduction which isnt even hard to reach with minimal coolodwn and the addon to regrowth...and it gives plenty dps and wolves do pretty solid damage if you do bonus to pets...though it doesnt give as much dps as warfare or hunting so its def there for survivability and petmaster builds...

guardian, soothsayer, ritialist, and champion are among the tankiest things you can see in the game even if you dont go petmaster but as a petmaster with the other class backing it up it can compare to some of the mid-higher tier dps classes in the game prob not as high as dex based builds though...though spirit is the best undead slayer in the game and liche is amazing...

My feeling is that Conqueror is popular because it is very easy to play. It is not gear dependant and is straightforward to build, thus the perfect class to reach Legendary without any effort.
