HOWTO: Resolving issues with Steam Play in Linux
I couldn't find this information, so I decided to write it myself. I hope it can help someone.

The game crashes on start

Try an earlier version of Proton. For my friends and me, it works perfectly.

Right-click TQ in the Steam Library, select Properties -> Compatibility -> Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool -> Proton 5.13-6

Then run the game and select 'Direct 3D' mode (the second point).

The game freezes after switching to another window or workspace

Go to game options and select windowed mode in graphics options. Then minimize the window instead of switching from it. It won't freeze anymore.

To make the game still be fully visible in windowed mode, you can put the window into a fullscreen state - most Desktop Environments and Window Managers can do it. For example, in Cinnamon, press Alt+F11 by default (or you can add two more shortcuts in Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Windows -> Toggle fullscreen state).

With these two 'hacks,' TQ runs in Linux better than it does in Windows 10.

Thank you for this post. I was having issues with game freezes when using alt-tab on Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.3. Using window mode and assigning key to Toggle fullsceen state fixed the issue :)
