Squabbling Merchants: worst designed part of the game?

I'll just start by saying I don't care about who inherits what, it's just the completionist in me speaking.

But for real:
- at no point in time does the village chief tell you anything about what to do; you have no reason to think something coming from an entirely different quest would be needed.
- there are two items you can bring her; both of those can be lost permanently in the same walkthrough, making the quest impossible to complete.

If you use the Lupine Necklace to complete the Giesel quest (and get the secret achievement), you can never get a new one. And since the giesel quest has been completed, Giesel herself won't reappear if you quit the game before having her killed, making her pelt unobtainable too. Great job.

Unless there's something I missed? This entire quest "chain" is a mess...

Also, if you get the sheep killed, and use her pelt for the Squabbling Merchants, then it's the Giesel quest that can't be completed.
