I would say it depends on what you are trying to get out of it.
rogue blade honing works on spears and it has a lot of other general abilities that should work well.
same for huntings wood lore. it also works well with bows, which will be a great secondary weapon considering that it needs similar stat ratios.
defense has a lot of shield skills, which you will of course be using and adds overall survivability. you do miss out on concussive blow though, which is a shame.
warfare is good if you want more offense, although you wont be able to use any of the dual wield tree.
dream and nature are good secondary masteries as well, for more offense and defense respectively.
personally, I would select hunting and one of the other masteries I mentioned.

Agreed.

Warden (defense and hunting) is very effective as a spear class. It is however the defensive focus of spear. It boasts very high hp regen with posion resistance, as the result of herbal remedy on top of the defensive healing skills. The arrow avoidance addition from the hunter side upgrade to art of hunt (I may be naming wrong one, it may be call), pairs wonderfully with the shield skills making you largely untouchable by physical attacks. The combination of shield attack skills (to lower defense with right upgrades) combines well with the lowering of max hp and bleed from the hunter spear skills. Your even a semi decent healer to parties, with herbal remedy regeneration and rally. It is easily one of the tankiest classes in long run, with guardians (nature and defense) being one of the clearest competitors.

The cons to warden would be, slow starting and grindy, and heavy hitting magic. The only real magic defense a warden has is the upgrade to rally, and that is limited timeframe. As a result, you may be thankful everytime a nature teamate is around with heart of oak upgraded for magic resist. You may also want to focus 1st on your spear skills and hunting, to help with the earlier grind.

Then i will go Warden(Defense and hunter).Ty for your information. One more thing. What is the best build for both Conqueror and Warden? What kind of stuffs do i need?Do i need a specific set of armor/weapon etc?

A set I can reccomend late game for wardens is Posieden (may I be forgiven if I misspelled it). Its what my old warden used to have on an older PC (he has long since gone to the deleted places) on IT.

I seem to remember either swapping out its sheild, or it not having one, if anyone can let me know for sure. My warden is my 1st rebuild of characters if I get back in to TQ now that theres the AE.

I currently roam legendary with a Templar (Defense/Dream) that uses a spear. The spear is the ideal weapon type for the build because of the "total damage" aspect of various of the skills and passives. Spears have lower physical damage, but do have the piercing damage element, and combined this does more damage than a purely physical weapon of equal speed. So far this build works out well (act2 legendary, no deaths so far). What I like about the character is the relatively good AoE damage ability and that mobs are either slowed, stunned, or petrified a lot of the time.

Warden looks good to me on the paper, but I haven't played one. One downside I see is that it doesn't have a good LMB attack. There's Batter, but it seems to be a bit bugged when used as a LMB skill (after it triggered, attack speed seems reduced). With a Dream combo, there's Psionic Touch that works as a LMB attack with just about every weapon type.

I never made a templar myself but I like its look on paper. One old character I remember was a dreamkiller (rouge/dream) that was fun with either spear and shield or sword and shield.

That is another note to make. While defense is all about shield use mostly, it by no means is required. There are a lot of character classes, that still benefit from shield, simply due to not benefitting from dual wield as much.

Hunting... Followed by literally any other mastery. As for other classes, spears are usually a reconciliary weapon for melee builds that mix Dream with typical caster classes due to the wacky stat distribution.

EDIT: I suppose if you were a dual wielding Slayer there's no need for a spear.

Bone Charmer (Hunting + Spirit) is the one I had most success in. Necrosis and Lich King reduce vitality damage resistance, which combines with Take Down to make for a good boss-killer.

You can't lower bosses resist to % HP damage anymore. Bone Charmer is still OKish. But it used to be nick named B(own) Charmer. It's definitely not that anymore.

Ah, so that was fixed? I haven't played the anniversary edition yet.

If you want to play spear, you want to go with Hunting. For a Spear centered Hunter build, your best second masteries are Dream, Defense, or Warfare. Other builds can work, but those are the ones that work best.

Defense is most survivable, Dream is, probably, easiest, and Warfare is if you'd rather be high damage than high defense. Dream's downside is you're going to wind up with more INT than you need, and less of the melee stats and health you'd get from Defense or Warfare. But Dream is such a great second mastery that it still is probably the easiest of them to play.

I'll admit, I've never played a Templar (Defense/Dream), so Mivo may have a point.
