Honestly, the old classes haven't changed much. You'll need to invest a bit more into Bleeding and Vitality resistance in the late game since they now get lowered in Epic and Legendary like the other resistances, and there are a lot of new items, but that's about it for big changes.

Imo all Defense classes are very viable for 0 Death runs.

If you want to see the details, check the changelog for the initial release.

any defense toon will become unkillable, doesnt matter what the other class is though defense has low oa and generally comepletly depends on his shield for everythimg...nearly all moves from defense req a shield equipped and also uses the shield damage rating in nearly every move it does so defense does have a really slow start as shields in normal and halfway though epic arent really that good...

earth gives you spells that scale off str, a pet, a buff that boosts phys a bit, stone form which you prob dont have to use much cause defense with a good shield blocks nearly any attack even without quick recovery...and eruption is a long range str based spell that hits multiple times and volcanic orb add on fragmentation can stun lock enemies esp if you learn concussive blow which extends all stuns in the game by up to double the duration...

but ya this char will be pretty weak early game unless you start as earth and learn earth enchantment and addon to kill enemies, and since defense depends on you having a good shield..and needs about 200-400 oa from gear to not miss his attacks later on...though with 200 he prob wont miss anymore, but with 400 he will start criting more consistanently..

though again its harder to gear a mage/defense toon then warrior/defense and unlike conquerer he lacks oa...also unlike warden he cannot stack pierce to skyrocket his dps things like tracker set...but i guess if you want to play a warrior that casts spells that scale off str not int think he should turn out okish but not be as good a mage as a pure mage or as good a warrior due to his stats being all over the place due to earth adding to int...

edit: i mean earth spells do scale off int as well but since some of the damage is phys you can boost parts of it from str...

Very informative, thank you very much for taking time to put this answer together, I am very happy to see there are people that still enjoy this game. We should play sometime, also how is the Eternal Ward of Tartarus set? Except for looking cool is there any class that uses it as end game gear? As I saw it had a lot of resistances and some bonus dmg to Titans (even though there is like 1 in the game if im not wrong) if i remmember correctly...i remmember playing this game when I was young and I had luck of finding the entire set and was wearing it just because it looked awesome, therefore I concluded that it is the strongest one in the game which i am guessing is not the case, but still would like to hear an opinion on it if there is one :D Have a nice day

most defense toons use a mix of gear esp depending on what other class they pick...wardens for example stack a ton of pierce+% like appolo wills, parts of the tracker set, and a good shield so they can maximize their damage...
while conquerer just goes for resists and str boosts cause warfare fixes defense low oa and makes this combo chain crit and defense covers warfare glassy nature though gives up nearly all long range power as a sacrfice...warden can use bows as good as the best hunters in the game..

and ya mage combos with defense usually just dont die, i do know pally is the class to pick if you want enemies to be in the stun animation for as long as possible, consusive blow exends stuns for up to double the duration and storm gives a lot of those and defense covers storms glassyness with the top tier blocking ability...

i find i love guardian the most due to all that healing, stacking the bonus to pets like crazy to boost pet damage and not losing too much dps on self due to strength of the pack givng you +90% phys damage, and you buffing them with bonus to pet rings and amulet and fighting along side them to make up for no staff...its basically a pet class that boosts str to wear heavier armor and has some of his dps be his own and rest pets, he reminds me of cleric from dnd...

but ya in general defense has one of the worst early game but makes up for it later...esp if you can equip the best shields in the game..

Eruption will be a key skill I recommend because you will be able to face tank a lot of stuff and the damage from eruption instead of being a single nuke the damage keeps coming and coming if they stand in your face tank and also standing in eruption. You might not have intelligence stacked to boost fire damage but the play style is advantageous from eruption just having them standing in your damage. Another aspect is that eruption is also a ranged attack for those enemies you want to throw range to them like archers or something like that.

In an older version of "TQ" I played as juggernaut too. Really cool mix class.
But to be honest, I love nearly every defender-combo... ^^

ya defense is one of those really good late game classes that shows that hard work pays off..its just so weak in the early game but by the end you wont die if you carried it to the end of the game it makes you really hard to be killed...and once you see endgame defense at least once, you prob end up loving defense unless you think not dying is boring...most experiernce the power of defense via conqurer, that imo is the reason that combo is so good, and warfare fixes defenses low oa and helps when defense isnt helping you at all or barely at all..

only other classes that are like that is imo hunting and maybe nature...hunting needs a lot of pierice +% stacking and its really hard to do that but once you do the dps is just ridiclous, prob a fav class for those dps main people and offers both top tier close range and long range presense as all hunting toons can use bows and spears....and nature is one of the best support masteries in the game but looking at the num of skillpoints of most skills are 8-16 and you have to max them asks for a lot when you can just use lower skill req char but once you get get +6-8 all skills, well you'll see how broken nature is at the end of the game..
