Hunter-rogue useless in Legend.
Been running the above through to see how much the new version has changed...
While normal and epic have been ok... I'm now in Legend and just cleared getting the boatman's oar.
Warning: You die a lot once you get to Rhodes and beyond.
The problem seems to be 2 things.
1) Haven't found any AC or bow that improves my dam or AC pretty much since the beginning of the game (legend)
Even using the more loot mod...there is just no better stuff dropping (the hunter/ dex based character) has never had any decent gear so to speak of.

2) Bows do little damage in legend and poison too little and too slow with the new AI that brings mobs of NPCs.

In Atlantis after using 4 mad god and 2 behemoth scrolls and dying 7-8 times the king in the ruins stopped any progression and I had to quit Atlantis.

Just about every magic user heavily damages my character. Again because there is little good AC for dex bases chars.

I might make it ok through Hades, but doubt it my char will make it far in Ragnarok. Looks like the devs have changed a bit too much. **sigh** Mobs are now killing me a lot.

Dying in legendary is quite a common thing for many builds. I think the Devs made a huge mistake for making the vitality, bleeding and poison resistance going up to -100% (yes -100%, FREAKING -100%) in legendary.

This leaves much less customization in your builds as you definitely have to work around boosting your resistances neglecting heavily your damage output, and when you do you still die.

I can't stress this is enough but you have to boost your resistances, this is the main reason you die.

Secondly, you can't survive without "Damage converted to Health". Either get Soul shiver which is a very useful cheap artifact or get your best MI bow enchanted with Anubis Wrath preferably Incarnation with attack speed bonus.

Last tip I have, since you are at the beginning of legendary, try to farm Boar Snatcher, which is located quite early in the act. It's a high level boss which can drop some good items.

You can watch the first seconds of the video to see where he is located

Hate to say that, but to my eyes spear brigand is very powerful but bow brigand is not. Rogue as a secondary mastery for bows doesn't work that good.

You must improve your build. Even Full Dexterity with less items suport than your Str:Dex build still can do good in Xmax.

Sure in mods I can kick ass as well...but playing the reg game using what I can find in the game, trying to find what works and what doesn't in the Annv. Ed.
Xmax also tweaks internal game stats, as does one other I have.

But been playing vanilla game to find bugs and see how broke the devs made it...ran ok for both norm and epic and now into Hades....am dying a lot.
One of the big problems since it came out was the lack of hunter gear and while rogue is deadly in the first two levels, also falls apart in Legend...so I tried a combo of both...lol, it sux. ;-)

AC? Old gamer talk for Armor Class/ Amount of Armor. And it does count in TQ. (mostly)
The original devs never quite got the bugs out of armor doing "EVERYTHING" it claims it does.
Was hoping these devs might fix it, but alas, they have not worried much about the original version and are concentrating on Ragnarok and Atlantic...so when they change something in those, it tweaks the entire game (and sometimes not for the best)

Far cry from useless. It's not as tough as Haruspex (with him died only once on whole Legendary, with Brigand died 17 times total in game, but only once from boss (that golden boar with RD, I practically killed myself)), but dmg is much bigger, not to mention Haruspex' problems with constructs and devices on Legendary. Has that massive dmg shot, very very nice against bosses.
Elemental resistance is OK even around zero, but vitality, life leech and bleeding, as well as energy leech resistance (extremely important for Act 5) must be 60+.
Poison and piercing res. are high by default (Herbal Remedy and Tracker set).
Using Tracker set except Hugin bracers, Apolo and Soul rings and Nidbow.
Forgot the name of the amulet - but it is one very defensive with zillion of stats.
But Nidbow changed a so-so advance in walk in the park, to be honest.
Before it, wasn't hard but wasn't easy either, actually quite annoying with undead.
If Nidbow is out of question, nice alternative is Bone bow (green). But you relly need to have life/energy leech weapon. Elemental or pure physical bows are crap for suvivability.

@Hawk318: Did you watch that vid?
If yes, don't you see using skills with tactics can resolve alot problem that you have?
Now you want to talk about xmax change the game, its easier to get items, but it has more enemies to fight at once=> harder in battle.
Using skills with tactics can fix many things, if you want to play nobrain build, just tank and hit, you must build your gears build with defense, res, ADctH.

Play single game no mod, there is several enemies per group, Brigand bow with self found items can kill them before they can do do anything to you, or with spear, you can combine with Poison Gas Bomb. If you want play only with spear attacks, no other skills, so i don't talk anymore.

Look guys, I agree, but you have to remember this thread was for the problems in the vanilla game...
Getting things had always been the problem in TQ There are a lot of great items, but having them drop is another things I don't think the devs see as a problem.

I've even been running another char (hunter/rogue) along side in a mod (more loot) Even using that mod running progress with my vanilla char...I have yet to find anything decent for a bowman AC or wep wise.
This has always been a deficiency in TQ...if luck is with you, you get a few really useful drops, but mostly you find crap that is for other classes :-D

I play single game no mod before play xmax or any mod.
If you stubborn like that, so i stop here. You can keep your thinking that only you know what are you talking about.
Items are important, but skill builds and tactics is important too, look like you don't learn anything you need to improve your gameplay, just repeat again and again about gears this, gears that :steamfacepalm:

Lol, 35 characters later and been playing since it was released (my fav game of all times) and it appears that you have the definitive answer(s) :-D
Maybe to you dying 6-7 times a fight for mini bosses is fun for you, but to others...not so much.
This thread was mostly for newbis as several posts were 'what should I play?'
The 'old store' had all the gear (other than Atlantis) and you'd really see just how poor the drops are compared to what they could be. ;-)
Either way, I'm outta here.
