Help! Stuck at Birch Forest. Nibald wont ferry me and I cant find the king to force him to. What do I do??

Just continue the main story line. Scandia is just east of the ports. Once you've gone to the shrine the king orders him to take you (there is no way to get the item he's asking for anyways)

Thanks Chris, I went to Scandia,but the 2 gates in Birch Forest are locked. Im trapped...got nowhere to go.

Have you delivered the mistletoe to the king yet? Talk to guard outside a building to the north of the city and he will let you in. Then talk to the king for quest to go to the shrine.
