b) The Gorgon Queens can drop purples, bows, spears, and rings mostly, but don't expect them to do so frequently.
c) Purples can drop from stupid little chests, Nessus (the centaur just behind the Spartan Army camp) etc. The only places where they start to drop somewhat regularly are the Act bosses - i.e. Telkines and Typhon. And even there it's more like 1 in 20 runs. Those items are meant to be somewhat rare.
...for full info on what can drop where look the item or boss up in TQ-DB[www.tq-db.net] - the item's or boss' card has two tabs above the shaded area listing the stats in default view, pick the right one titled "loot table" to see the droppers / drop tables.
Be creative, use that slot to fill gaps or further strengthen your focal strenghts. Remember, you can clear the socket for a small fee via the Altar of Separation tab at the Artifact Crafter. Or salvage an awesome relic if you find a better weapon.
Weapons: Again, depends on what you can get your hands on and what you already got covered...
The true difficulty (or rather, luck) lies in finding the right suffix-prefix-combo in one weapon. So if you happen to focus on that Distortion Wave / Psionic Burn combo, a decent combination might be two lightning-buffing affixes, like "Crackling/Electrified" ___ "of the Storm/Tempest". If you're playing more melee-style, "of Reckless Power" or "of Trickery" suffix might be nicer. Re. life leech: Better than leech is AttackDamageToHealth, and there the suffixes "of Feasting/Devouring" would be what you're looking for. Finally "of Harrowing" is a superb suffix (-%EnemyHealth), and with a suitable prefix pretty much awesome.
You can look through the weapon merchants to maybe find something sweet and get a feel for what is possible, and you can buy and slot the weapon for testing the effect on your DPS, and as long as you don't close the merchant window, you can sell it back for the purchase price. If you exit the window, though, you'll lose a lot of money - only the standard max price paid, not the millions of gold you paid...
...and the (often grindy) thing then is getting a Monster Infrequent (the moss or olive green labeled ones) with the proper affixes, like e.g. in your case an Electrified Sabertooth of the Tempest... ...which is a pretty awesome thing to have, but then, the chances aren't that high. Can mean you'll have to kill a ton of kitties... ...but dual wield two of then and you'll really become the ball lightning blendor in the middle of a heap of corpses.
Good Monster Infrequents are the e.g. Sabertooth mentioned above, the Khthonion Razor found in deep Hades if you fancy a sword, the Phonoi and Dvergr.-Forged Battle Axe for axes, Folg for a mace, Mbuti's Advocate (due to its Study Prey debuff skill) if you fancy Spear-Shield.
Some of those drop pretty regularly during standard map progress, some are darn rare... ...and the TQDB Loot Table tab isn't entirely true for many of them, quite some can also drop with a meh chance from standard trash monsters of the corresponding species, so take that with a pinch of salt. But basically, scan through TQDB to see what might help you the most, and where you might get it.
Also, there are ofc awesome purple weapons, but you can craft really cool stuff that is green.
HTH + GL hunting!
