...Hunter - nice synergies (bleeding & piercing damage boosts)
...Dream - even more gimmicks, cool, versatile trances + AoEs
...Warfare - dual wield => AoE instead of single target (BTW also works with Rogue base attack)
...Defense - tanky, +melee Dmg with the shield, mobility, stuns
...Nature - Plague debuff (also poison, nice debuff), doggies of distraction, healz
...Spirit - debuff, Lich pet
1-4 I'm playing on and off in various stages, and all four are fun. Just the Elementals don't swing all that nicey, IMHO.

Put points in Flush Out, Open Wound and anatomy if you want to increase the bleed damage you do with Marksmanship.

EDIT: But yeah, essentially what suicidal_godot said :)
a lot of masteries have minor skills that can somewhat help traps, but only a few offer some more direct ones.
lets look at some masteries and see how they can help, in no particular order.
spirit has two summons, spirit ward/bane, dark covenant/unearthly power, circle of power and deathchill aura+upgrades.
several of the buffs do not boost piercing damage and the summons deal elemental (outsider) and vitality (liche king). if you want to make this work, you should invest in vitality-buffing pet gear. deathchill is a very good debuff, but depending on your build you may want to avoid running into danger to use it properly.
nature has heart of oak+upgrades, two (or four, depending on how you look at it) summons, along with various other useful abilities such as healing and debuffing. you may want to stray from traps to invest more into wolves though.
the wolves deal physical, so physical pet gear is recommended.
hunter has the monster lure summon, call of the hunt/exploit weakness (which is one of the few things that can buff your traps pierce damage), herbal remedy (though admittedly not as useful for temporary summons, especially ones that are already immune to poison), study prey (which means the target can take more pierce damage) and art of the hunt (another one of the few things that can buff pierce damage on pets). you can pick any pet-buffing gear you want, though focusing on a single one is still recommended.
storm has a pet, but minimal synergies outside of its debuffs. not recommended. if you have to, choose elemental-buffing pet gear.
earth has a pet that is amazing at tanking (good to pull aggro from your traps), heat shield to make a target even tougher (probably best for either you or the core dweller), one of the best panic buttons in the game (stone form) and earth enchantment+upgrades.
probably not an ideal combination for you, but it can certainly work. get either elemental or physical pet buffing gear.
defense has almost nothing. rally can be used to buff your pets and some skills stun, but thats about it.
warfare is a little better, but not much. you can debuff to a small degree, you have a temporary summon and you have battle standard/triumph. also not recommended, but not as bad as storm or defense. choose physical pet-buffing gear so the ancestral warriors also get a boost.
dream is again a little more versatile. two out of the three trances can buff pets as well and the nightmare summon can buff them too. you also have some debuffs. choose vitality or physical buffing pet gear.
that should about cover it. I probably missed out on some, but this should get you a good overview on what to expect as a trapper.
I beg to differ here...
...Defense: Tanking the aggro away from your squishy traps is quite the useful mechanism, and swinging an axe, you'd even get both the blade venom column as well as Concussive Blow to roll. Some axes even have a piercing quotient. IDK if Rally heals your traps, but if it does, that can come somewhat handy. Also, several passives make your melee an AoE similar to dual wielding, great to apply debuffs or Harrowing procs (though I'm not 100% sure here, whether weapo-borne Harrowing procs on Batter). So the way to go would be Tanking the baddies within your Traps range, while they make them look like porcupines - which might be quite satisfying.
Dream: Trance of Wrath lowers all resis (including pierce and poison), and also makes you the aggro magnet due to the EleBurn. Also Skill Disrupt => few baddie AoEs which the Traps don't really like. The Dream AoEs also have a stun or a slow effect, and are great attention-getters.
Stuns are useful to keep the baddies within trap range (or stinkbomb AoE). Also, combined with the innate Rogue-ish stuns, slows, and debuffs, there quite some synergy potential.
And on a different note:
I forgot to mention one of Nature's big plusses: Refresh. Fnck Trap's apalling CD, get some Energy pool, Trap - Refresh, next Trap,... ...could be fun! :D. You could also add Plague the other gimmicks pre-Refresh, then re-cast those, too. Quite some potential there...
Just pure warfare makes insanely strong dual wielding character, adding anything that complements it is even better. In this case blade honing is very good with dual swords or thorny mauls. Also, i tested it and if i remember right, maxed calculated strike+lucky hit is actually stronger than onslaught. That is because they nerfed onslaught and gave insane boost to calc strike.
As for hunter,,.well you got the poison tree to debuff enemies...some bleed dmg if you want to go for it. But this surely ain't my favorite bow build, never liked the mandrake that much and you don't get any direct pierce or physical damage buffs with bow or good passives from rogue. And since there is no good ways to debuff bleed resistance, there are too many enemies that resist it. One good thing here is though that both rogue and hunter give tons of dex and also some str, which are both very useful.
I like hunter+nature and hunter+dream combo more if doing bow build however.
Ps. Seeing people talking about trappers, had to add that i have tried a trap build but it just isn't that great. Even with amazing gear the damage starts slacking in late game, at least compared to most decent builds. I took it somewhere in legendary can't remember how far. Can honestly say it was the slowest and most boring character to level, and i've tried many.
