Just started. Have some questions.
Hey yall. I just started the game, and I'm already pretty confused. I'm just a little bit ahead of crossing the bridge in the first village of the game, and I just levelled up for my first time.

Firstly, I had to assign skill points to my character, so I leveled up my Strength. I only had 2 points, but my skill got levelled up from 50 up to 58. What the hell is the logic here? How does that work? Whatever. It let me put on a pair of leggings, so cool I guess.

I decided to select Warrior as my "mastery" (can I select more than one?), because I like just beating things up with pure physical might, and I had 3 skill points to work with within the mastery, one of which I put into the mastery rank thing (which I had to to actually be able to select any skills), and with my remaining 2 skill points, I put 1 into weapon training, and one into onslaught.

Now, I get that weapon training is a passive thing (though I have no idea what "offensive ability" actually means), but I'm confused with onslaught.

Firstly, the description of the skill states
"When used as your default weapon attack, Onslaught increases your attack damage with each successive hit."

What the hell does that mean? When used as your default weapon attack? What? Isn't my default weapon attack just left clicking on enemies? Is it possible to use only onslaught without using any other axe or club or whatever? I tried replacing my axe toolbar slot with onslaught, but that didn't seem to change anything.

Secondly, how do I even activate this thing? I equipped it to my tool bar, but when I click it, nothing happens.

Also, is there any option to make my character keep attacking instead of clicking on enemies over and over? Seems kinda annoying to be forced into constantly clicking on the same spot.

Also, how important is money in this game? I'm pretty much picking up every weapon enemies drop and selling it all right now.

I might have more questions later, but that's it for now. I'm probably not gonna have a chance ot play this game for a few weeks cuz of assessments but I'd like to be properly ready when I do play it.

Thanks.

There is a folder manual in the installation folder of TQAE and there are some PDF's into this folder ... read it for these basics!

And don't forget, that the game is 10 years old an only a "new edition" ...

I just checked the steam installation folder from the game (in the common section in steam apps) and there's nothing of the sort.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

Is this your first aRPG? Titan Quest is pretty basic but not very helpful in terms of in game tips. Diablo 3 may be easier to learn if this is your very first aRPG.

This shouldn't be confusing at all. 1 Attribute Point equals different values for HP/MP vs STR/INT/DEX. That is why the points are not 1:1.

Hover over Offensive Ability (or any other stat) in your character screen to see what it does.

Remap your Left Mouse Button, next to your toolbar. When using Onslaught you will notice a yellow ring start to glow around your characters' feet.

You can hold down left click, but no there is no auto attack in this game, or else it would become trivial to bot.

Money buys you things but the rate at which you gather gold scales up as you play higher difficulties. Do not waste time picking everything up, but you may want to pick up some things to sell or potentially use. Rings and amulets are good to pick up because they don't take up much inventory space, allowing you to learn item prefixes and suffixes while also vendoring them for some extra gold.

Thanks.

As with almost aRPGs, one thing you have to accept is that your first few characters are going to suck. You are going to make mistakes, and that is okay. Just make sure you learn from them to not repeat them.

You will get an option to select a second mastery after your character reaches level 8. You CANNOT change your selected masteries (and there will be no other option to select), so choose carefuly. However, you will get an option to relocate your skill points. In some towns/villages, there is a NPC labelled Mystic. There you can relocate your skill points, for a price.

Default weapon attack = left click.

"When used as your default weapon attack, Onslaught increases your attack damage with each successive hit." – First successive hit = normal damage. Second successive hit = increased damage. Third successive hit = even more increased damage. And so on.

Onslaught: apply it to your "left mouse" button in the bottom menu (the two buttons on the left from your energy bar are your "mouse" buttons). It will be activated automatically when striking. It should work with all melee weapons.

Money: they are various uses for them. Still, you will probably have an excessive amount of gold in the late game. When trading, look for the "green" items. They have often a useful bonuses in them. You cannot buy Epic/Legendary items, but a "green" item augmented with a powerful charm/relic can be equally strong. You can buy scrolls, powerful one-time spells. They are not cheap, but they could be an immense help when dealing with powerful enemies. You also need gold in order to pay for a completion of an artifact (you will need a formula, correct ingredients - charms, relics, scrolls or artefacts, and gold). And as said above, you need a gold when relocating your skill points (the sum increases with each point, but it is capped at 45000).

In addition to what the others said: There's an ingame tutorial that pops up everytime you encounter something new. If it doesn't, check the options for the shortcut that enables it.

Wow, ok, great answers everyone. I had a chance to play some more recently (though I doubt this will come by again, maybe an hour or two in the near future) and your advice was damn useful. I get pretty much everything I asked about now. Thank god that I can hold down the mouse button at least. My fingers were getting tired, and still are to be honest. I figured out quickly how useless it was to pick up everything, and yeah, I'm just mainly picking up armbands and selling them for quick cash.

However, I have some new questions. Mainly, am I doing this right?

I've recently reached level 8, and I've got my 2 masteries. Warfare and Defense. Figured they would complement each other fairly well and suit my playstyle. However, whenever I have gotten any skill points for my character, I've been completely ignoring HP, MP, INT, DEX, and everything and just pumping all my points into STR. I'm not sure how much STR I need, but I figure that requirements will keep rising for stronger and stronger weapons, so I may as well pump it up, plus, it increases my damage, which I'd consider the most important stat in any game. I mean, killing enemies quicker means you take less damage means HP isn't as valuable ect ect ect. If given the choice between raising damage or HP, I'd pretty much always choose damage, as long as diminishing returns aren't in effect. I haven't been doing awful on HP, though I am chugging a fair amount of potions. I haven't had to purchase anything from shops yet, so I guess I'm doing ok.

Just to give you an idea, I'm at like 130 STR right now and I just cleared a spider cave for a water Nymph or something.

What I'm concerned about it, while Hammers and Axes and stuff haven't really had much of a DEX requirement, there have been some Swords with a fair DEX requirement. Now, these seem like a melee class type weapon, but DEX seems like a stat more for stuff like, I dunno, Spears, Bows, Daggers, Staffs, that kind of thing? I figure I should be completely avoiding bows, but it seems strange to be avoiding swords. Not that I'm against it, but still...

So, I'm curious, for a class combo like mine, how important is a stat like DEX? I figure I only have a limited amount of points to work with, though I don't know what that is, so I wanna plan this a bit. After briefly looking over what further abilities are in my mastery trees, MP doesn't seem particularly important, neither does INT and that one other stat whatever it was, but is it feasible for me to completely ignore DEX and just keep using hammers and stuff? Or will they need a high DEX requirement later on that I'm just not seeing right now?

I'm also completely ignoring any sort of enchantments right now and stuff (though I am picking up all the boar hides and stuff I can find) because it seems pretty complex and like it would be a waste in the early game seeing as I'm constantly getting better stuff ATM, and could save me some farming later.

Thanks everyone. This has certainly made my time a heck of a lot easier.

it could be biased, but you need certain dex to use swords as well. but you don't need a lot of them though. you can stick to put highly on str for hammer, axe too. but later they also need slight dex too. approximately 150 dex or something. DEX is sometimes important too because it increases Offensive Ability (chance to hit and score critical as melee) and Defensive Ability (chance to avoid critical hit and reduce damage taken). yet these things can be considered later for your preference and can be boosted with gears. about enchantment, they are simple yet can get annoying to get what you want for completion option. don't throw them away. dump them into mules or stash. these completed enchantment can boost your stat highly (e.g. Archilies with attack speed) and these are ingredients for making powerful artifict. i hope it helpes.
