I have a question about this streaming cutscenes...
Do you really have to watch them while streaming or can you skip them and continue playing?

or more like: do you have to stream to continue playing the game?

why I am asking this is because some people have bad connection so it would be bad if it is that you have to stream the cutscenes to continue playing. so if you could skip it, you can then maybe watch them on Remedy YouTube channel?

just a thought that is all.

Hiya Croxick!

You can skip both the in-game cinematics and the ~22 minute live action show episodes if you so desire. You'll miss out on half of the story though.

The live action show adapts to your choices within the game, so most likely the clips you find online won't completely match your narrative experience of the game.

Hey. Regardless of your choice, you might find this article interesting to read since it expands upon what LauriRMD said.

Initially, I was a little thrown off by cutscenes on Steam version being "streaming-only" and I almost lost interest. In the end, it's fine and I learned how the game is made to make you eager to actually watch them and discover the story.

Apparently the PC version (Win10 one) was supposedly streaming those up to 4K res, but someone said the game lowers it, depending on connection speed. Is this the case for Steam release? I'd prefer max 1080p, no more if possible. An option to select max res would be nice.

I'm interested by the game and have a decent internet connection (20 Mbps) but I don't really like the fact you have to stream the live action shows, as if you internet connection fail, you screwed.

Same if you're not the only one to use internet at your home and so if you don't have enough free bandwith when you reach those live action shows, again, you're screwed.

If the XBOX One (which don't offer a lot of disk space compared to a PC) can offer to download them, I don't really see why PC can't except if Microsoft want to keep this option exclusively for XBOX One.

If it's the case, then I don't really see why they release the game on PC, and especially on Steam...

And it's not like you can skip them, as like it was said, you would miss half of the story.

And what if the live actions shows are removed for any reason by the way? (or if/when the servers are down)? People will buy/play a game where half of the story is missing?

(And I hope servers are faster than Windows Store ones because I'm actually updating Killer Instinct and the speed seems again, very low, same as when I downloaded the main game... It says 5 GB so it should take less than a hour but as this rate, it'll take several hours...)

Not saying I'll never play the game but with those considerations, I won't buy it day one like I first planned, I'll probably wait a year or two until it's discounted because, like other players, the only thing I can do is to vote with my wallet.

But feel free to do a Alan Wake 2. I loved Alan Wake and if there would be a sequel on PC, I would buy it day-one (without "streaming contents"). Of course, a good sequel, not like this thing called "American Nightmare" which is really too-action based..

@Hiei - The game plus its cutscenes takes upwards of 150GB of hard drive space on Xbox One...

Which means live action shows are roughly 80 GB big (as the game is 70 GB big), which would be a pain to stream for lot of people.

But I guess they are available in several qualities, so they are probaby not that big for only one quality.

I wouldn't mind downloading 150 GB if it could avoid streaming, it's "only" 21 hours of download personally, not really a big deal (and the same bandwith will be used for the streaming anyway).

Are they on the DVD/Blu-ray of the timeless collector edition?

No, as they are exclusive to the XBOX One version.
