Steam vs Xbox One vs Windows Store?
Wasn't sure where to ask this but I guess here would be best so here goes;

I play on Xbox One and PC, though some Xbox Exclusives aren't on Steam, but some are on Windows Store and some aren't. This confused me a little.

If I have games on Xbox One, can I download them and play on PC?
If I buy games on the Windows Store, can I download and play them on Xbox One?
Is there a list of ones you can and can't play on both?

An example would be Quantum Break, i'm interested in playing it, but it's an Microsoft exclusive but is on Windows Store too, if I bought it on Xbox One can I play it on PC whenever? and vice versa? (Yes I understand it's on Steam as i'm here, but I'd like to play on both systems so Windows Store would be my best option(?)).

A full explination to how this all works would be helpful.

I think any "crossplay" functionalites were introduced only after QB came out. There was a special offer where you got the PC version on top if you preordered the XBox Version, I recall. But that option has expired, obviously.

...actually I am not sure if there are any XBox games that give you both versions at once?

For Quantum Break at least, you'll need to buy each version separately. I recommend the Steam Version, as it is based on DX11 and runs considerably better than the Windows Store Version. (I own both)

DX11 is better only for nVidia graphic cards. If you have a AMD GCN based card Windows Store version should offer be better. I bough steam version,Quantum Break: Timeless Collector from a local store for 29 euro. For this price I can accept to play at 30 fps, drops to 19 on a combination of medium + high at 1080p. (r9 280x, i5 6600k stock, 16 Gb of ram)

Thanks for that tip. I have a GTX 1060.

No you can't. Xbox play anywhere titles (which is when you buy a digital xbox game you also get the pc version) only started happen in the last quater of last year (the first game was Recore). Quantum Break did give out a windows 10 key for anyone who preorder the xbox one version digitally, but it was only for preorders and not part of xbox play anywhere.

Also note: crossplay can't be implemented into Quantum Break as there is no multiplayer. Crossplay is when users on pc can play with users on xbox one (at least in the scope of this thread). For example Gears of War 4 has xbox one and pc players playing together, as does Killer Instinct, Forza Horizon 3 and more.

Lastly saves for xbox play anywhere games are cross platform, meaning youc an play on you xbox one and continue from your last save on pc. I believe this is the same for Quatum Break if bought on the windows store (which I would not recommend as the steam version runs far better), though I may be mistaken on this last point.

Can anyone look into this? is the cross-save functionality only for the win-store version? I assume yes, but it'd be interesting to know regardless. If so, is there a way to finagel The save location so it can be read by your Microsoft account? Computers are fun things, and all thats happening there is your M account is registering that a save is available (i.e. a folder somewhere is filled and its noticing that (perhaps noticing win-shop ownership also?)) Just interesting to know. Sorry for butting in xD

Just checked there is cross save. How cross save works is when a game opens it checks the cloud for the save, if it isn't there, you can't continue from where you where. You can't just copy and past the save to do this.

Do not buy the windows store version, I have it and it essentially is broken. If you are going to get it on pc get it on steam. The windows store version is substantially worse and for myself outright broken.

I bought Gears of War 4 on the Windows store, then downloaded it on Xbox One for free.

It is part of the xbox play anywhere program, which means when you buy it digitally you get it on both. Quantum Break is not part of that program as it didn't exist untill recore. Quantum break did give a windows key with xbox one preorders, but that is all.

If you go to the store page it will tell you. you just have to look for something that says it's an xbox play anywhere title, if it is then when you buy it digitally you get it on windows store and xbox one.

All exlusives Recore onwards it seems are xbox play anywhere games, along with some third party games like Resident Evil 7. Quantum Break came out before this program started and thus isn't a play anywhere game.
