The game is stuck

Hi
I seem to have a curious issue with the game. I start a new game, have the intro with the ghost and as soon as I swipe away the last card before game proper (the one with the text telling you that the ghost is gone and you enter the throne room) no new card shows up. I can just see the back of the next card which won't turn over and all the bars (pop, military, church, money) are empty. The game is not frozen, I can go into the menu and even start a new game but that doesn't help.
I tried reinstalling the game as well as doing the steam check local files thing but nothing works.

I have solved the problem, but I don't remember how, since it was few months back... I think I have verifyed the data and then tried to start the game from the installation folder directly as an Administrator and the cards loaded... It shouldn't matter, how do you run it after it is solved, bcs the cards should be loaded already.

Got the same problem; Tried the data verification and running the exe as administrastor. Still nothing.
Guess refund it is since nobody gave the answer here yet.

I bought a new laptop and the game runs on that, so maybe it is a Windows thing. Also my old computer was borderline non - functional, especially in the Windows department.
