Beginers Guide to Stronghold Kingdoms
Before I start this thread, I would like to say this is how I feel a new player should start. Their are many different tactics and each person is different so mine may not fit you. Their is no wrong in this game. My stance on people who think this game is pay to win is that they are wrong. As you can accomplish everything a pay to play player can with time and there are many different ways to play you can't actually win. I am not a high level player or anything of the such. I do not consider my self skilled in this game but, to have knowledgable points. Italicized things are important and should be read.

On a side note I will be making another world to go along with this Guide. (World 6 -- Kent, Meopham) Primary world is (USA 1 -- Eastern WA)

Selecting a place for your village:

In my personal opinion I tend to go to lower crowded areas (green) do to less people not as many attacks (personal experience may change on locations) and scouting is easier.

The tutorial:

All I have to say is to just do it. Get it over with has some useful rewards and teaches you many things. Now as it does leave you in the dust and leaves out alot we will try to fill you in on some of those areas.

* Peasents and food: Peasents require food to eat and there is an equation that you should note. z = x * 300 / y

x = Peasents
y = differnt kinds of food you currently have being made
z = Amount of food that should be being produced for each villager (If it is below the number of food you will not take in any of that kind) Ex. of this equation.

z = 20 * 300 / 3
z = 6000 / 3
z = 2000

means that if you have one building that does not produce the 2000 you will not take in any of the food from that building.

*Placing your industries: During the tutorial they will have you produce some buildings but where to put them? Yes, your first instinct is to place right next to so you make highest amount of food but, you can move the granary and stockpile to keep your village less cluttered. The stockpile is a tricky one to place because you do not want your peasents to make more of one thing than another you want to keep it even so for me I place it inbetween the forest and stones on the left hand side as far to the left as possible so you make about equal stone and wood. The Granary should be placed off an away where it won't get in the way of anything. Myself I placed it in the top right furthest I could go to conserve space and make good amounts of food. The best place though is probally a little to the left of the top right corner so you can place buildings all around it.

*Research: it is going to make you spend your first point on arts but, will return it. As you can see you can buy upgrade levels with gold (Do not do this -- until late in game). Each level you buy will go up as you purchase. We will come back to this later after the tutoral.

*Rankings: Each rank up will give you 3 skill points to use at the skill tree and opens up new research in the skill tree.

*Cards: Great if you have the money to buy coins to get the cards but, if not you can always find other ways to get them. weekly free card, objectives and having a siege lord. I believe is what it is called lol. So no need to purchase if you do not want to.

*Premium token: Worth it if you have the money but, if not everything the premium token gives you can still be obtainable threw time just a little slower.

*Taxes: Do not raise to much for the start but never have them as zero. To start out go one up where the taxes start out at about 20 - 25. Where no fame will be taken from you. After a while of playing and you get a larger family going then you can slowly increase the taxes.

*Your castle: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR CASTLE FROM THE START. This can be taken care of later. I am not saying your castle is not important but, not right away. This will be something you want to work in later in the game.

After the tutorial:

*Your first battle: No need to panic the walls currently built will stand hold against the enemy attack. This will not happen often but time to time. When you start the game you have a 5 day safety where you can not attack and can not be attacked by enemy players or camps. I do not reccomend you attack anybody else eathir as that will take away your 5 day safety.

*Quests: Quests are a good way to get resources from the start. If you can not remeber where quests are located hover over a tab and it will display text saying what tab it is. Making contact is one of the first quests you will do in this game and it is simple so I reccomend getting it out of the way. Go to the parish wall and write on it. Where it says enter text here just write something and press enter "Hello, I am new to the parish." is always a great start and tells them that you are new and they should be weary if you need aid as they should help out. Now go back to the quest tab and click complete and collect to finish the quest. If your stockpile or granary is full it will warn you not to collect as you will loose part of your award. To help prevent this go to your skill tree "Research tab" and research mathmatics then engineering once you are level 4+. Once done with those just follow the quests to get your village going.

*Invite a friend quest: Do it as all you need to do is put a email address no need to open or confirm or anything just put an email address and click send. For this quest you will need to re-launch the client but, it is well worth it. As you will need the gold later in game.

*How to move a building: All buildings but your Village Hall can be moved to move a building click on it and click the green "compass" and reposition it to your liking.

What to do next:

1. Increase village capacity limit by adding some hovels. Hovels are homes for your village peasents to live in. The closer the hovel is to your Village Hall the higher capacity -- Sense I think not but that is life here. Myself I like to make three and put them right next to the village hall capacity limit of 12. So when you get off for the night or couple hours you will have enough room for all of them. When you first start you do have a 2 day premium token so you should use the queues to your advantage.

2. Lets increase scouts to increase your scouts avaible to one so you can go out and pillage supplies from the areas around you. Scouts should now be at level one. Once, you have researched scouts to level one you should go to your village and go to the create units tab and make a scout. It will cost you one peasent and 100 gold. Now note Note all scouts will survive the trip or make it back, but as you progress the chance of coming back goes up. So save your money for now. Lets go scout out some supplies now. Go to the world map and look for some icons like cheese, salt, meat, stone, iron but, most of all you want to find and scout venision unless it's like 1+ hour away. Venision is used for banquets and banquests raise your honor to level up. In a banquet venision is only worth 1 honor per unit of venision.
VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. Scouting "Resource Stash" can get you honor as well as whatever is held inside.

3. Now lets increase your rank to Yokel (3) this will provide new research and 3 research points.

4. If you have not already do the quest research dairy farming and then make a dairy farm near your orchard of other foods. This will allow you to make dairy farms in your village and make cheese for your villagers to eat. Please look back to the equation at the top of this guide to remeber how portions are set. Each industry placed will require a peasent to work their so do not panic if there is an x above the building. More will come in time. Takes couple hours at the start (sometimes less depends.)

5. The next quest in the book is chainmail if you have yet to do this do it now as it is just about as easy as the invite a friend even easier matter of fact. Go to the world and find a random player does not matter who. Where it shows there picture click the mail icon and put a topic such as Hello and write them "Hello, (their name here) I am new to this land and was introducing myself thank you for your interest in this message and have a nice time."

6. Donating to the parish is also a quest but you shouldn't feel the need to do this if you do not want to. Worth it though to do. Your parish is your capitol and to donate to the parish click the parish and go to the parish village - check out the parish castle also tends to look cool if you have a cool president - and click on a building that shows supplies in the bottom right some that you have like wood or stone and click that then donate and choose what supply you want to donate as each building has it's own level. Donating increases the level of parish buildings. Donate some wood to start just like 500 or 1000 all up to you. After you have donated turn in the quest.

7. You should be at about 50 honor now so once you get your 50 honor rank up again to a Peasent (4) and then research Pillaging four times located under the military tab. This will allow you to get 50% more when you do scouts. This will take about 10 - 15 mins depending on what you have researched previosuly. Can take more than 15 mins.

8. Now research plough and then hops farming.This will not be very useful until level 8 but, once you get it you won't need to later. This is so you can produce Ale which is used to make your fame go up.

9. Lets build some more stone quarrys to keep up with the wood being produced. Build 4 stone quarrys and one more wood building. No need to rush into wood yet do to the card used in the tutorial.

So it's a new day and some time has passed.

Reports: Reports will tell you everything you have done and what is going on in your village ranging from a new research to a war on you an enemy or your parish. If you go to to it you can view all the research you have done, the scouting accomplished and more. You can also edit it to tell you what to show you.

Village: If you village did not go to plan like mine didn't also it's all good. You may still have some buildings with not enough people so for now lets just scout on ahead for some more supplies.

Lets continue:

10. If you look at your honor you can rank up again but, is it the right time? Once you become level five you will have to pay a tithe to the parish. For each rank after that it goes up. Myself I will go to rank five as we can afford the taxs. So you are now a serf (5) and have unlocked more research abilites and 3 more research points.

11. Now go to the research and research banquesting then hunting so you can do banquets for your village and get honor for it. This will allow you to produce venision and as stated earlier for banquests venision is worth 1 honor per unit.After that is done research Matchmatics then Engineering so we can increase storage capacity and lastly research stockpile capacity.

12. If your wood card is expired or almsot expired like mine you should start to build more wood buildings. I put three down myself for now. It will be more than stone so we will have to weight that out later, but for now we will be ok.

13. Now lets add a Inn also so we can store the Ale. After you have queued the Inn place a Brewery down next to it. I place my Inn and brewery in the upper left most corner to save space around it. If you do not have enoug resources do not panic just wait a little bit and come back later to check. Remember you can always do quests for resources also.

14. After you have made the brewery we are going to make the hunters hut so we can produce venision and get our rank higher quicker. You are going to want to produce that as close to your hunters hut as you can so you make the most venision or honor per day.

15. Once you have enough Honor lets rank up again to a Villein (6) this will unlock 3 research points and new things to research.

16. With your new research abilites and points lets get Banqueting and then carpentry. Then, so we can make a little bit more honor research hunting again so it out weighs carpentry and we can make even more honor a day. Once the research is complete place the c
arpenters workshop.

17. To make money in this game you will need a merchant so lets now research mathmatics and then the merchant guild.

18. Once that is done place the merchant guild in your land. I placed mine up near the Inn. My tactic for building is out then in for most everything that doesn't need to be next to the Village Hall.

19. Now research scouts again then get horsemanship three times. To increase scout speeds. This will help get more honor and resources.

20. By now if you are scouting "Resource Stashes" you should be able to become rank 6. If you are I would reccomend ranking up then. If not keep scouting if you do not know what the resource stash looks like it is like a jar. The resource stash has to be within your honor circle (the red circle) if it is outside you won't get any honor. (This is easier on light servers -- less people)

21. Now that you are a Bondsman (6) you have earned three more research points and new research toics.

22. Now that you are a Bondsman lets research Literature and place the Theater in your Village also. Place this near the Village Hall for maximum happiness.

23. By now you should be able to get to a Freeman (7) where you will unlock new researches and 3 points.

By now I have taught you many things so much useless stuff and like 5 good to know things. We have gotten you to level 7 and you should be good to go on your own now good luck.

Quick note(s):
- In this guide I said to upgrade your pillaging I meant to say upgrade your forging. Sorry about the inconvience there.

This is not one of those games where everybody will enjoy. This is more like one of the facebook games where you have to wait for energy but insted of energy you are waiting for buildings to get built, skills to be learned. A very time oriented game. When you first start it will take about an hour before you get off but after that the game slows down alot and you won't be doing much until higher levels. If you want more to do you may want to try and get scouts and a army.

On a personal scale of 1 - 10 I would have to give it a 4 / 10

A well thought out walkthrough, you should consider adding it to the Steam guides for SHK.

I was wondering if any of you can answer a question about my castle build. I was repairing after an AI attack and a message said "Can't put that there" but it didn't specify what "that" was. I repaired everything with the auto tab so it's not like I added anything new. My path to the keep is clear. Anyway, it won't let me repair the damage and I am nor missing a large tower on my outer ring. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I've had this happen. Not sure of a solution, time seems to fix the problem though. It's particularly bad when you have multiple incoming attacks.
