Firefly killed this AWESOME game by craving more and more money through opening new worlds every month.
I've stopped playing the game seriously but still moderate the forums and farm, I really do love the franchise and most of the community. Too many new worlds fragmented the playerbase despite rapid growth after the Steam and Mac releases. Either Firefly needs to find way to close or reset old worlds without disgusting players who have invested thousands of dollars and hours in it.
Coming back and seeing all these worlds.. it reminds me of Lords of Ultima which did the same thing, opening a new world every few months and never closing old worlds; makes the community too fractured. Also, other decisions based on greed such as allowing players to have up to 1000 cities each while needing to hand over real money to be able to maintain so many. If you chose not to have many cities and so not need to pay real money to manage them, then you were at a huge disadvantage to players with craploads of cities.
Anyhow, I think the fractured community especially did a huge number on Lords of Ultima, so it's not surprising that they've permanently shut down all of their servers now...
