game doesn't start on fedora 20, it crashes immediatly after launch

[SOLVED] the issue seems to be resolved, the game works on linux mint 17 (cinnamon and xfce4)

i don't see why i should 'hack' my system to get a game running. reading the above i'm kinda glad i didn't

It is not a hack at all. Debian based distro's pretty much have mmap_min_addr set to a reasonable value anyway. Some distro's set this higher, and this causes problems.

We've got a few crash reports now, and have spotted a problem with gamma ramps in SDL2. We'll look into this.

to find out the value of vm.mmap_min_addr type this in the terminal.

sudo sysctl -n vm.mmap_min_addr

Same here on Debian/sid, 64bit. I tried to run it from terminal, but then it fails to load .steam/bin32/steamclient.so, so I can't really strace or gdb it. To me, it appears actually to be hanging because it can't initialize the sound.

Running Ubuntu 14.04, all uptodate. i7,8GB,560Ti. Get about 1 frame every 1-2 secs.



Waste of space and my £3.50. No wonder it's offered at an 85% discount.



Are all Steam games like this? Don't want to spend and find out.

Not all Steam games are like this, far from it. Not that I know how this game looks, I was looking forward to giving it a try but I'll have to wait on an update. So far I can tell that:
- I get a black screen on top of all windows with an hourglass
- mmap_min_addr does not matter (Arch default 4096 or 0)
- native libs or bundled does not matter
- some udev lib fix mentioned somewhere does not matter

So ... still looking forward to trying it out, I'll be playing Day of Defeat, ArmA Tactics and Europa Universalis IV until then :)

(Archlinux 64-bit, kernel 3.14.21-1-lts and nVidia GTX 285 on nvidia-lts 340.46-2)

no, not all steam games are like this not even close. xcom is fantastic port also borderlands 2 is an excellent port and the list goes on. its just wapped games like this that have issues

I'm running on my openSUSE Factory x64, 8GB ram, Nvidia 760GTX proprietary drivers 340.46 manually installed.

No problem here.

i tried on both fedora 20 and on mint 17 with a 760gtxand driver 340.46 and in both cases the game crashes on launch

hmm..still crashes on ubuntu 14.04, I downloaded it 11-12 hours ago or something..hope it's just an update that isn't showing up yet or something..
