They didn't make it compatible probably because the game itself has a very messy code (by their own admission they said it would be easier to rewrite the entire game than do some changes); also the devs abandoned this project 5 or 6 years ago and they won't come back to it for any patches, fixes or anything else.
BUT maybe there could be a way, I personally have never done it but I think if you manage to create a partition on your machine to install windows on, you should be able to run it.
the big idea behind KVM is performance and security while running near-metal performance this shouldn't take much effort if you know what you are doing.
I always keep separate pc for games away from my linux systems , just in case if I need to run any game on linux with anti-cheat systems , waiting for patches for old game is kinda hard , I advise you that better go with this solution than just waiting with nothing.
