Nah, you are not that bad at all with it. Not like you were implying in your other thread. I just pointed out that I think pulling off the class abilities might be easier with the mouse. I did try to mention that it might be a trade off for some of the other things the controller lets you do, don't know if you caught that though.
If you've access to both though, I'd still say give it a shot just to see what you think. If you don't like m/kb, just switch back.
I might be odd on this, but for this game, and games like Dark Souls (particularly 3) I do actually prefer the m&kb over a controller. It's not like I have anything against them, I've got access to xbox, ps4, and Steam controller. So I've got choice, and some games I do make sure to use a controller.
I just find that for me the m&kb feels and works better for Absolver. My brother is the same way (for DS), he plays exclusively with m/kb and does very well at the game, in both pve/pvp. And I'm doing pretty good with it in Absolver's pvp. I'm definately holding my own, and it sure feels like I'm pretty close to a 50-50 win/loss ratio. I do feel like the mouse is better for the class abilities than the joystick would be. That being said, I've not actually plugged in the controller to test for myself.
And I didn't notice which keys could or couldn't be rebound. I found that I quite agreed with the default layout. I changed the target lock from mmb to my thumb button and that was it. Oh, and run from R to the alt key, I guess.
There are some oddities, like trying to cycle through multiple targets. That is broken because it sort of stops and doesn't just keep going as you move the scroll wheel, you have to go back up if you hit the bottom of the target list, if that makes sense. So I quit using that functionality altogether. Instead I just unlock and lock onto a new target as need, it is extremely easy with mouse aim to do that. And you can't walk, that looks cool, but I don't see why it is needed.
Also missing is the ability to remap the style special, which the majority of players who have tried both agree is easier with the right stick than with mouse. Not everyone agrees, so you can be one of the odd ones out. I'm personally one of the ones who finds the controller more comfortable for it, but that's not unanimous. I know a LOT of people, both controller and mouse users, who want the ability to remap that. Also controller sensitivity/deadzone settings for the style specials are notable in their absence.
Haha, as a user of the "normal" (DVORAK I think?) keyboard, this hadn't crossed my mind. On the normal keyboard though, I quite liked the QEZC layout, because of how it mirrors the quadrants. Don't know why anyone would want to change that on the "normal" keyboards.
It is very odd that the studio would do that if they are working where the standard is the AXERTY layout. Maybe the particular guys resposible for that design are from out of country and used to the "normal" keyboards or something.
All my Mount and Blade: Warband experience probably translates quite well to Absolver's style special layouts. It did take a while to get used to the mouse directional system in Warband, but once I did, there was no going back. Absolver functions pretty much the same way, particularly for Windfall, so it might've been a lot more intuitive for me going in, than it is for non-Warband players.
And little side note, in my opinion, the Warband directional system is the most immersive method of weapon handling ever created in any video game. I feel like rebinding the 4 directions to buttons or keys would be cheating yourself out of the experience. You just feel more "connected" to your weapon/character, if that makes sense. It might not work quite as well for a fist-fighting game, but I'm so familiar with the format now that it is still extremely intuitive to me.
I'm definately biased towards the m/kb for that reason.
They should always allow complete customization over your control mapping. Unfortunately it doesn't always happen. I assume at some point Sloclap will patch better mapping functionality into the game. Sure hope they do for those who want the rebinds. :)
