However, stagger style has an npc school. Once you join it you can unlock the style itself by just using its abilities even in offline mode and farm the moves off various npcs.
- MOVES: All attacks ("moves") are only loosely linked to styles. In fact you can learn any attack of any style and incorporate them in your combat deck, regardless of your characters' currently selceted "style". There is no special benefit for using the moves of your current style. Note, however, that the moves of each style tend to come with individual ephasis on particular stats - i.e. the damage-output of windfall-moves generally depends more on dexterity and mobility, while not scaling that much with strength. You can tell by looking at the letters of each individual move (S, A, B, C, D, E, -; S means that the damage of the attack scales very directly with that stat, while - means dmg doesn't scale with that stat at all).
In order to learn a move, find someone (NPC-enemies are handy for this) who uses the move and defend against it (block it, or, for faster learning, evade it) and defeat your opponent. - Or you can also join a school (not sure how that works) so that many moves are unlocked for you immediately (but lost once you leave the school?).
- DEFENCE: Special defensive abilities (right stick) are directly linked to styles. E.g. only if your current style is windfall do you gain the "evade"-ability.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
So: Style-specific MOVES can be learned and used by anyone. Style-specific DEFENCE, however, requires you to have the particular style on your character.
Moreover, the damage of weapons also seems to have a hard-link to the currently selected style.
I don't know how you can switch between styles. I'm not that deep into the arena/PvP stuff yet.
