Example 1: How would it interact with the defenses?
Windfall would get out of the way, that one is easy.
Kahlt would just take it on the nose like everything else, but how would the timing work? Would it need to be initiated at the moment the grab would connect or when the attack part was done?
But Forsaken would cause the most problems. They would parry it, just pushing the grab off target. But then grapplers would complain that they should still be able to perform the grab, or at least shift to a different one.
Example 2: Why would the grappler ever release their opponent? Why not just combo them to death once they've grabbed them? Obviously it'd be unfair to the one being grabbed, but grapplers would complain that they should be able to as well since strikers can string together long combos.
Example 3: Grapplers would likely want a defense that, when performed right, would automatically grab the opponent, opening them up to their grappling move. But then grapplers would also want to be able to use their defensive move against being grappled themselves and turn the tables on their opponent.
Example 4: It would throw (see what I did there? =P ) the move decks into complete chaos. Where would grapples go? Would grapple moves take the place of unarmed strikes? That'd be problematic, since you'd be limited in what you could do in either grappling or striking mode. Even if there were just striking moves that initiated a grab that, if successful, switched both combatants over to a grappling deck, it would still cause problems because suddenly every deck would need to have a grapple initiating move.
Example 5: They'd need to create grappling attacks for numerous different angles of attack. Standing in front, standing behind, standing to either side, on top on the ground, on the bottom on the ground.
Watch some MMA and see all the different ways people are grabbed and how they fight while grabbed. All that would have to be animated, given stats, and balanced. In short, they'd have to rework much of the game. Just thinking of how much work that is boggles my mind. T_T
