You'll only ever have a maximum of 3 players in the open world with you, though. And there's no NPCs to co-op with. There are some NPCs who will talk to you and give advice, but they don't fight with you.
The developers have said that while the game does work with keyboard and mouse they highly reccomend using a controller, as the game was built with controller in mind and keyboard and mouse as more of an afterthought.
Yeah that. Although a few KB/M players from the beta have said the controls there were really smooth, and the devs have mentioned that the option of remapping the controls was being added to further help with that.
