Beware spoilers about endings of the upcoming chapters:
There is a good end, but it will take some time to reach it.

Hundreds of years, even.

To put it bluntly, the search for a happy ending is pretty much the main driving force of the series. Which is to say, avoiding spoilers, that if there is one, it will most likely come in the final chapter.

On the plus side, starting with next chapter, you'll get to experience the story from other characters' perspectives. That may or may not do anything to improve any particular character's survival rate, but it should help to break up the monotony of being stuck inside Maebara Keiichi's head as everything goes to hell yet again...

Yes the series does have a happy ending however a LOT of bad things happen between now and then. The bad things you are seeing now and so far don't even come close to the overhanging plot of the entire Higurashi universe

WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS (If you mouse over this I am not to blame)

The protagonist of Higurashi is not Keiichi, it's Rika Furude. Yes the little 8 year old blue hair girl is the protagonist. She's actually much older than she is letting on technically being well over 100 and the entire franchise is about her struggle to create a universe in which her and all her friends can live happily ever after.

What, not even through Tomitake and Ooishi's perspective?

That's to be expected, but there are aspects to the story that Keiichi is not privy to yet, and may never be. Figuring out the mystery is far more difficult without a full grasp of the facts, and can color your understanding of events quite significantly.

Not to spoil anything, but the next chapter deals with an event a full five years in the past (1978), before the chain of murders ever began and well before Keiichi's family moved to town. A different protagonist, under those circumstances, is inevitable.

I think you'll find it still works, and Keiichi will return once we get into the Answer arcs (Ch. 5-8), even if he's not always the viewpoint character.

In response to the spoilers (I have watched the anime so I know the events of the story)

Yes Rika is the main character of Higurashi, but Keiichi is actually a very important character since he is the one that triggers a change in events to the story.
