There is a good end, but it will take some time to reach it.
On the plus side, starting with next chapter, you'll get to experience the story from other characters' perspectives. That may or may not do anything to improve any particular character's survival rate, but it should help to break up the monotony of being stuck inside Maebara Keiichi's head as everything goes to hell yet again...
WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS (If you mouse over this I am not to blame)
The protagonist of Higurashi is not Keiichi, it's Rika Furude. Yes the little 8 year old blue hair girl is the protagonist. She's actually much older than she is letting on technically being well over 100 and the entire franchise is about her struggle to create a universe in which her and all her friends can live happily ever after.
Not to spoil anything, but the next chapter deals with an event a full five years in the past (1978), before the chain of murders ever began and well before Keiichi's family moved to town. A different protagonist, under those circumstances, is inevitable.
I think you'll find it still works, and Keiichi will return once we get into the Answer arcs (Ch. 5-8), even if he's not always the viewpoint character.
In response to the spoilers (I have watched the anime so I know the events of the story)
Yes Rika is the main character of Higurashi, but Keiichi is actually a very important character since he is the one that triggers a change in events to the story.
