no sound or music at all
I tried re-installing it and erasing the file from the steamapps so it would be a full new install and no change. The other two chapters seemed to work just fine. Messing around with the in-game settings do nothing. I don't have any mods installed, nor am I running it in a sandbox. My computer's volume works fine-even the sound mixer can't register any noise from the game when it's running.
I can only assume the problem started when the devs replaced all the midi files during an update in 2018 or so.
Any help would be appreciated.

But did you get rid of the save files? I don't know if it does, but maybe the problem lies in there. There is more than just the saved games; there are also preferences and such. All of this lies outside of Steam and is not deleted when uninstalling, so if it is the source of the trouble, you have to deal with it yourself.

the midi files
There are no MIDI files in Higurashi. Some tracks come from MIDI files, but are rendered into audio for distribution. I think it's pretty rare for modern games to use MIDI directly, due to how there's no guarantee of the resulting sound.

You're talking about the local files, right? I've already tried that, unless there's somewhere outside of the steamapps/common I should look.

No, not the "Local Files". As I said, it's "outside of Steam"! Here's one thread giving locations on different OSs. Unfortunately, the Windows location may be different depending on the version of Windows you're using. My advice, if you can't find it exactly where stated, is to do a search for "Mangagamer".

Well, I tried erasing that too. No change.

Has anyone else had this trouble? I'm glad I got it in a humblebundle a while back at this point-if I paid for it at full price, I'd be more ticked.

No idea, then. Sorry.
