Also, indeed, Arena mode is an end-game content, aimed towards those who are already very familiar with the game. If you don't have enough DPS, you'll end up making enemy waves stack and it quickly becomes a mess.

The second arena isn't too hard I think. What's killing you? The bulls trampling around? There's some room where you can position yourself without being hurt by them, a little above or bellow their running line. Other than that, I don't remember much trouble with the other critters.

I'd suggest bringing at least one or two spells of Ice, and to deal with Frost-immune bulls, Lightning.

My experience with the arena mode is that if you fail, try changing your spells loadout. At first I tried brining healing, then I gave up healing and got much more success.

On later stages I can suggest specific spells. Since I didn't have trouble with stage 2, anything does it for me.

Just try to pinpoint exactly what you're thinking it's hard there. What you're taking too long to kill, or what's killing you, on which situation, and we can then suggest something!

Also try to think about their elements, so you can try bringing spells with the opposite element for extra damage.

I hear on gog that arena is designed for level 40+ character.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

honestly it's mostly the fact that while trying to dodge enemy fire, i keep falling in the holes there :D thank you for all your advice though, switched out the spells i'm using and am already getting farther :)

Ohhh, the holes, I would never have guessed! I'd avoid teleporting between them, or if you must, stop moving before teleporting, wait for the teleport to finish, then you move. It's the safest way to teleport in the game on such places, works like a charm. I've tried to stay around the arena to not go between the holes too.

Just keep on the outer ring, favorably where there are no portals. Get a heal area in one corner that you come back to when you need it.

Any tipps on The Fountain of Wonder? I have every of the base game's achievments, but this one gets me.... hard. I tried every character on lvl 60, several builds. The double boss phase +
OP double immunity Rimecleave gets me every time..

(And on that note. -25% resistence skills seem to be deactivated completely. The ability to stun enemies seems to be deactivated completely. And nowhere is a word or warning of this. This arena thing seems to be very forced and with an artificially cheapened difficulty. Could have been better imho)

Try blue Cornelius (the Cornflower).
Forester's Staff (first row on the right) for Survivability and pick Large Life Cycle and one more spell of an element you don't have yet (Death or Shadow). I recommend Pulsating Hex or Death Circle but you can go for Death Bolt or Chain Death as well.

Something like
https://npskills.github.io/hardcore/Cornelius.html#55005055010512200000055000550021
should do fine.

Basically all you need is a character that has a good skill tree (survivability AND damage) and many different spell schools with good spells (hint: in order to kill the Scythe Bugs quickly, you're going to want many projectiles because you can get them out quickly and they regenerate quickly). Once it's only the bosses on both sides, just make sure to have them clear the poison clouds and you'll be fine. Put a Large Life Cycle in the Upper half where you can come back to, when you need it.

Okay. I cheesed my way to victory. Amadeus Box + Piercing Shadow ftw.

Thank you for your answer, coolDisguise. :)

Since I had quite some trouble beating arena 5 myself I want to leave some tips and suggestions for that level to future players:

The hardest part is the wave with the big Rimecleave ("Executioner") and the two mantises. To kill the Rimecleave you can go for a high damage build or a high survivability build.
You can watch the first approach in this video (Rimecleave appears at 9:36). Corresponding build[npskills.github.io]
For the second approach I made my own video (Rimecleave appears at 5:48). Corresponding build[npskills.github.io] (and don't forget to chose the Forester's Staff)
So basically either kill the Rimecleave really fast so that it can't hit you or be able to survive a hit or two until you defeated him. Once the Rimecleave is gone, the two mantises should be manageable. Anyway, there are still some more tips for beating this level:
- You can make the two mantises hurt themselves/each other with both of their attacks. This is shown e.g. at 12:45-13:00 in the second video linked above.
- Their poison puddles explode when they are hit by the mantises' fire beams.
- The small Rimecleave that accompanies the first mantis will quickly be killed by the mantis. Just stay away from the Rimecleave and it will be gone soon.

I hope this helps a bit! :-)
