It reminds a lot, but the gameplay is actually quire different, as it doesn't feature the key element of Magicka which was conjuring elements individually to cast spells.
By the way, Magicka is not property of Arrowhead, but of Paradox. Magicka 2 wasn't made by Arrowhead as well.
Yeah they own the copyrights, that's right, but that's as far as it goes with their involvement in the game.
If arrowhead was trying to "rip off" their "own" game I would've been more than happy lol, that's what I meant. (Also since there's a reason Magicka 2 sucked compared to the first...)
Well, seems about right then.
Magicka, while is my favorite game, wasn't the first thing to introduce any of these stuff. The controls are different (Magicka: click is movement, modifiers+click and right click are spells, and you use qwerasdf for elements, Nine Parchments: WASD is movement, click is spell, and QE is scrolling trough selection of spells, it's like a twin stick shooter where you select your weapon... Because that's exactly what it is), how enemy attacks have tells (for example landing spots of jumping enemies are highlighted), THERE IS JUMP IN THIS GAME, which leads me to a map design element that's not in Magicka games: PLATFORMING, also Nine Parchments doesn't have element based spell creation. And these are just the many things that show that these games aren't the same at all.
Of course this game took inspiration from Magicka, but it's far from being a ripoff.
Let me know if you have any questions. :)
This looks like a much more polished coop experience
Why are the review scores so low?
But in all seriousness, I'd say we mixed some fantasy-chaos-action with modern twin-sticks, and the result is more streamlined, in good and in an bad. It's hard to not be a "clone" in these days, as there are so many games and so few genres to fit them all.
If you can believe it, Starcraft 20 years ago was accused of being a "Command & Conquer" clone. Although C&C was a "ripoff" of the Dune RTS.
People just need to accept that genres don't start and end with one game.
In fact it seems really nice, and since magicka 2 sucked I could really consider this.
