Really hoping they will just add some kind of workaround soon because this does kinda destroy the co-op :(
A friend wasn't able to load the game at all to even generate that file. I actually had to buy it just to generate low-spec settings to send over. She almost refunded it instead, so I'd say this is pretty critical to get a day-one fix for, or at least make a news post with a low-spec options.txt included for people to download.
The bug is caused by unlocking a new character. The player who unlocked the character can't progress past the end screen.
For Internet co-op - Usually you can access the esc menu - and leave game.. then click 'join game' (not choose) in multiplayer to rejoin a game at that level/point. Usually this'll get you back into your internet game.. Sometimes the server hamsters have heart attacks and it won't let you back in (we're busy, try again later).. in this case, you're screwed.
For Local Co-op.. exit the game/restart it.. and start a single player game(Click resume game). Then have your local-co-op people press start or .. spacebar? to join into the game. It should let you start the next level no problem.
This has happened at the end of levels without unlocking charatcers unfortunately, it will go to the end of level screen but one player cant push anything, even restarting it can happen several times in a row, but unlocking the character will always make it do this.
Started a multiplayer match after just getting the 8th partchment, played it until we got the 9th partchment, then I got stuck (for unlocking a costume) and had to leave.
Started in singleplayer, carried on and played more until I got to "How About a Cart Ride". Played the whole level almost, until I found the character quest statue, and noticed I should have brought the "box" from the beggining to start the Amadeus quest... tried to get back but couldn't. Left to main Menu, then the "Resume" option disappeared... goodbie Amadeus for me... lost a few hours in the process as well.
1. Check the Game's Files
You can do this by verifying the game cache or by reinstalling the game, which should make sure the problem isn't with the game's local files. Here is how to do the earlier through Steam:
2. Launch the Game's .exe
Please try to launch the game's .exe file through the game's installation folder, its path is the following depending on where you have installed Steam. You could also try to right-click the file and run it as administrator.
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Nine Parchments\nineparchments_64bit.exe
If you have any trouble with finding the file, you can navigate to the installation folder through Steam by following the instructions below:
3. Update Your Operating System
Please check that your operating system, graphics card drivers and PhysX are up to date. You can find the latest version of PhysX through this link[www.nvidia.com]
Please also note that it's best to restart your computer if you update any of these.
4. Check Open Programs
Unfortunately it's not uncommon that antivirus or other security programs sometimes interfere with any game's files, so please check this isn't the case with Nine Parchments. You could just in case add Steam and the game to your security program's exceptions.
Please also see you don't have any other programs open that could interfere with the game, for example overlay programs such as Raptr or Xfire.

Unfortunately it seems that there is an error when the game tries to automatically set your resolution. We'll definitely look into this, but in the meanwhile you can set the resolution manually from the options.txt file. You can find it by copying the following to your Explorer: %appdata%/NineParchments
Open the file and look for the following lines. Set them to match your screen.
This workaround is valid for Steam and GOG.
If the game does not generate options.txt file, email us as we will send you one. You can reach us from support [at] frozenbyte [dot] com.

Going to answer the rest in a minute.
