But that doesn't mean the ones you find early on are useless. You'll have 10+ characters with 50+ mastery points to allocate (eventually). And you can't equip duplicate masteries (on a single character). So chances are, those Body Trainings will come in useful. And the 1-point common masteries are great as crafting ingredients for more costly masteries.
A few masteries will unlock further masteries when you craft them (those show a little plus symbol in the research screen).
There are something like 700 masteries in the game. Or more or less, I forget, and I didn't count. Each one is different from the other. Each one serves a different purpose and combines with other masteries into sets which can be very powerful if used correctly.
Don't worry about getting duplicate masteries, that's fine because you can use them as ingredients for crafting new masteries later.
