Is this game any good?
Is it like Persona + Xcom or something else?

Something else. Major difference is masteries and mastery sets which allow you to customize "soldiers" however you like. You can see some examples on screenshots here:

Saying it's like Xcom + Persona is more like a way to give people an idea of what it looks like without going into specifcs. Troubleshooter is Troubleshooter there is nothing else like it.

Just buy it it's very good and has an insane amount of content for it's price.

Definitely something else! For the price it's definitely worth it, I enjoy the story/characters as well as the game play.

Aye, I'd also say something else, it plays very differently to both of those. It's closer to XCom than Persona, you'll spend most of your time playing turn based battles on a large grid map, but it's not really that close to either and is very much its own beast. If you've in loved with the turn based strategy genre it's definitely worth a go, if you love jrpgs then it won't scratch that itch quite so much but might be worth a spin. It's a steal at the price it's at.

is it a linear game or do you have options and paths you can take for different story results?
x_equals_speed Jan 31, 2023 @ 1:58pm
The story is basically linear. Some missions have variation within them in which a choice or dialogue option might affect who takes your side or where a battle happens, but the overall plot will follow the same course regardless.

It takes over a hundred hours to play through the story, so there's enough there that it doesn't really hurt the game to go the same way each time you play it. Upping the difficulty also causes new unique enemies to spawn, some bearing skills and items you only get from them, so I found that while the story stayed the same the gameplay changed enough to justify playing again on a harder setting.

Main point of replayability is that each character has 2 advanced classes so you can have at least 2 different playthroughs

Imagine XCOM meets Final Fantasy Tactics, meets Pokemon. You have ~100h of story ahead of you and at least 300 more hours of gameplay once you dive into the pet, drone and mastery system. Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children is a theorycrafters dream. There is countless of viable builds and strategies.

Currently I have 500h in this game and it's sure to be even more.

The mastery system is also very similar to FFVII's materia.

I'm currently playing it on lower difficulty (easy) for a few dozen hours and wonder if i have to restart the whole campaign to get access to all that stuff or if i can switch difficulty during playthrough and get all the missing masteries (i got several masteries in the research console which i'm unable to craft as i miss the parts) from repeatable missions...
Also does playing offline lock you out of some stuff? (As i understand i can't convert my offline save to online just the other way arround)

All content can be repeated and replayed, even story missions, and you can change difficulty between missions. The game actually wants you to with the unlockables.

Offline locks you out of current and potential MP aspects such as PvP, and potential server based backups troubleshooting by the developers. It isn't necessarily huge, but I would suggest playing online unless you cannot reliably always play online.

I'd argue the multiplayer content is minimal, and will never be a focus in the future, at least in this game. You don't lose out on anything of note either way.

Thx, so i don't have to restart now with ~40 hours in.

Another question, If i do decide to restart, will the new company a different save so i can alternate between them or does it overwrite my old save? (it seems like they are seperate but i've played some games where i thought it was and killed all previous stuff just for trying something out in a new game...)

You can have multiple companies (essentially "save slots").
