They have added partial controller support, so there certainly were plans at some point. However, the devs noted that they don't have (any?/as much?) experience with controller support, so that aspect was somewhat deprioritized.

I don't think there were any plans to release it on console, but i might misremember. But i think they started adding Controller support, because it was requested at some point because there were some people who requested it because they had some disability which made it harder for them to use mouse and keyboard (But of course i could be wrong).
