Don't worry about old stuff, you can get rid of it, but try to disassemble instead of selling it. The characters comes with equipment adequate for their level and class.
As for your gear, if you haven't seen it yet there is a warehouse in Shooter Street where you can keep excess gear.
That said, I don't recommend it, you should just salvage everything you aren't using that is green, blue or white. For purple you should salvage anything that isn't at your level except for the few ones that have a good stat affix and high stat -- I still have some purples and actually one blue item which has a 20% dodge or 20% block (or both) from earlier levels. The orange stuff keep for now but you'll eventually want to salvage them too once they are too underleveled.
You will get better gear all the time more appropriate to your level so don't worry about gear too much.
Thanks for the detailed salvaging suggestions.
I'll start the dismantling process now and finally look into the whole workbench side of things.
I haven't even touched that part of the game yet.
Its taken me all this time just to understand all the other stuff the game has to offer.
I dismantled all my white stuff for now. That cleared a whole lot of inventory space.
I'll keep the coloured stuff for later..... like when I finally get all the characters.
What?! None of the troubleshooters can use that equipment?
Wtf are they doing in the game then?
Oh okay, thanks for clarifying.
And yep... game is a blast. Total joy to play.
There are lots of stuff in the game that can't be used by your current roster of troubleshooters.
The game is not "complete" although it is out of early Access. Dandylion is still developing content for the game and adding more and more.
Also note that enemies use the exact same mechanics as your Troubleshooters. So a lot of the masteries and equipment are used by enemies, but don't have troubleshooters yet who can use them.
For instance, Alisa is a DLC-only character (free DLC mind you) that only came out after the main game Episode 1 was finished. She is the only Barbarian troubleshooter in the game and the only one who can use Warrior and Barbarian masteries, which you can get in the base game very early on. You are only able to use the Barbarian masteries once you finish the base game and get to the DLC content. There are still masteries which you cannot use, like Thief and Assassin masteries, as we don't have a Thief/Assassin Troubleshooter yet.
Pistols can't be used by any of your Troubleshooters, but they are used by some characters in the game like Jean (the fat guy who trained Albus at the start) and Marco, one of the criminals in the game who some people think might later on join Albus company (not likely but it's a possibility).
There are lots of things in the game which haven't been implemented yet but are already there. For instance, Bianca has a skill "Transmogrify" which lets you change the appearance of your gear, like you would in any MMO or ARPG. But it hasn't been implemented yet, but the placeholder for the skill is already in the game. Troubleshooter is just that kind of game and Dandylion is that kind of company: a super ambitious game with tons of content and tons of ideas but not enough manpower and funding to implement it all.
It's why all of us here are deeply supportive of the game and the company, because you can see they really give so much for so little. The DLC which every other company would have charged you an arm and a leg for, Dandylion is just giving away for free. They are still working on it today and are still adding content to it.
No, there are no characters you can unlock currently that can use them.
I was not aware of the current state of the game.
Here's hoping that Dandylion can make it financially viable to continue supporting the game.
The game is so enjoyable to play, but I feel it gets very little attention in a gaming world where AAA games with fancy graphics and big advertising budgets mask what ends up being disappointing gameplay.
