Is the game complete or still early access?
I am a bit confused - is this game still in early access or is it complete by now? Had my eyes on it for quite some time and just noticed that it is on sale.

It is a mix of a visual novel + turn-based tactics like XCOM, correct? Sounds perfect for me, but I really don't want to buy or start playing a half finished game.

It's out of early access since April last year.

The game is like Xcom, and pretty deep. The game has one small DLC released (free) with another coming wednesday.

The story telling is sort of a visual novel, and the art style is truley amazing. If you like Turn based games, this will be up your alley. OH yes, the game has a tonne of content., so expect to spend a while playing this. And there are guides to give you some tips and advice.
Also, unlike XCOM, it doesn't have base-building, but focuses on character building instead. And the combat has numerous gimmicks you won't find in XCOM, like different terrain effects, magic, physical, mental and magical buffs/debuffs, the character bonding system etc.

Indeed, some maps can be quite challenging as a result.

One piece of advice is, ignore crafting for the most part, you can easy get new gear as you go through the story, (without spoiling it too much)

But I have to say, the character building in the game is really awesome. There is an unofficial discord channel, that has builds on it.

the only real complaint I would make, it does take time to really get going. but once you got a large group (progress through the story) the game really opens up, and becomes a lot more fun.

There is actually just a little bit more for them to finish in the free DLC. However, this game is BIG. Unless you're playing 8+ hours every day, you're unlikely to get to the end before they finish up.

Yeah, the next part of the free DLC is going to drop, I not even got that far, and still on the main game.

I already bought it and holy sh...t it looks extremely complicated with so many different status effects and so on. I have only played the first 2-3 Missions so far but I like the art style and the combat system seems nice and very deep - maybe even too complex. But better complex than shallow.

The only that really bugs me, is, that I never know if the game saved my progress or not. So far it seems that I didn't lose any progress but I wish there was a save menu or quick save or something like that.

The game has a checkpoint system, you will hear a sound if you hit a checkpoint. The game will save your progress once the mission is complete. You can also press the excape button and see a abandon mission, with a choice to resume from the last checkpoint.

I think if there was a quick save system, it might make the game a bit too easy.

(but if you play offline, there is a workaround)

Also, if you close the game mid-mission, it automatically saves your progress. You can choose to resume the mission or abandon it when turning the game back on.

ok then I hopefully do not have to worry about saving.

I chose online play - it wasn't really clear what the real difference was but I felt this is the way it is meant to be played.

Oh tow more questions
- are team mates who die in battle, gone forever (like in Fire Emblem)?
- can I seriously make a mistake or alter the story depending on my choices in dialogue? I can see what other players chose but I am mostly concerned of missing out on some characters when giving a "bad" answer.

The game auto saves every 2 minutes. Allies are never permanently lost. You can replay story missions, and you can try out the different choices.

Here is some stuff for differences between offline and online:

Once a week, you can download your current online save to be played offline, but you can NEVER transfer an offline save to be played Online.

What is the Difference between them?
  • Wind Wall Safety Level
    • Online - will be determined by the number of successful missions and failed missions on the server
    • Offline - will be determined by the number of successful missions and failed missions in your private missions
  • Seeing percentages for choices
    • Online - You can toggle the option on or off in the options menu
    • Offline - You cannot see the percentages
  • Online only - You can send mail to other companies ONLY ON THE SAME SERVER
    • You can send a single type of item, like a stack of 30 black iron or one piece of equipment per mail.
    • You can also send Vill with the mail.
    • You can require Vill to get Items from the mail.
    • You can also send messages.
  • Online only - You can whisper messages to other players. The player you want to whisper must be online and they must also be ON THE SAME SERVER. Otherwise, you will receive a system error.
    • The command to whisper is "/w (company name) (the message you want to send)". This is case sensitive. There is a 128 character limit.
    • Whispering a player/being whispered to will create a new chat window that is separate from the normal chat window. This unique window can be moved by clicking and holding the left mouse button on top of the window and dragging it to wherever you wish.
    • If you attempt to whisper another player during a mission, keep in mind that the whisper window will not over-ride key inputs that you have set as hotkeys in the same way that the normal chat window does. Because of this, typing in the whisper window will trigger whatever combat hotkeys you have set with respect to the characters using in your message.
  • Online only - You will be able to see and interact with other players in Shooter Street (Multiplayer Lobby) but only if those players are ON THE SAME SERVER.
    • You can inspect other players. This shows their Company Name, Company Rank, Company Level, and Company Mastery
    • You can chat with other players in game.
    • You can trade items with other players.
  • Online only - You will be able to access any future Multiplayer content

Agree the game is very forgiving

Thanks a lot for the replies. I still do not know what Wind Wall Safety Level means but the remaining stuff is nothing that I really need, but since I read about the one way street (Online -> Offline), I thought, I will start with Online Mode and see what else might be coming.
TargetPractice Jan 13, 2021 @ 12:01pm
When Wind Wall Safety Level hits 100%, it increases everyone's chance to get masteries and items on the server by 100%. This is 3 hours for Online or 5 Missions in Offline.
