Huh. Thats why it took me so long to type this.
Well you live and you learn.
That's not meant to be an insult, it's just I've always found that trying to describe a preference to others, what personally "feels better", rarely works to change minds. The most we can hope for is, "I prefer it" and then hope others understand that what they too prefer really is just a subjective truth.
I prefer controllers. I can relate.
I tried that when I played Fortnight (Fortnite?) with my little cousins and it's unbearable to control a game that way, though I am aware that there is a segment of the gaming population made up of people who prefer that.
EDIT: I created a new thread with about this same message. I'd delete this, but since the participants of this thread are already known to be familiar with this matter, I figure it might get results faster than the blind post.

I do not know how to use that link, but the config is called "Event(0) Controller configuration" if there is some way to search public configurations.
EDIT: Oh, it appears right away when viewing Community configs for this game:
Big Picture Mode/Library/Event(0)/Manage Game/Configure Controller/Browse Configs/Community
The description input field is extremely limited, so I'll describe it here:
This is pretty okay, but certainly inferior to the feel of games that have native controller support. Look control feels pretty good, but character movement is halting since the inputs are merely keypresses mapped to a thumbstick and you're either walking full speed or not walking at all.
Also, I am left-handed, so if you want to use it right-handed, you can copy the settings from the left stick to the right and right to left.
There are two in-game control settings I changed to make this feel right:
- Set player control to Keyboard
- Set mouse sensitivity to 1.5
Left stick: look with iverted Y
Right stick: movement
B/Start: Esc (pause)
A: Enter
LT/LB/L3: Left Mouse click
RT/RB/R3: Right Mouse click
D-Pad: Up, Down, Left, Right arrow keys
