Does your error logs tell you any info from the game crashes that's the only thing so far i've found that gives a clear indication to the actual error ? In my case the 2nd and 3rd lines down say Ubisoft.Storm.dll causing an access violation when trying to use address location 0x0000005 or 8, as far as i'm aware these locations are reserved for OS layer which is why the game crashes to desktop in my instance.
Yea i'm not using AMD GPU. If you check your error logs the game creates when it crashes to desktop you might be able to narrow down the issue. In my case the error log says on the 2nd and 3rd lines Ubisoft.Storm.dll caused an access violation trying to use 0x0000005 or 8 address in RAM as its reserved for the OS as far as I know
Ubisoft.Storm.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module Ubisoft.Storm.dll at 0033:91b5f355.
If anything new comes up I'll be sure to pop it up here tho.
I had to laugh last night as I actually saw a streamers game crash on a recent video for the first time with the exact same 0x00000005 crash to desktop issue but totally different game, I think it was Warzone and after some digging that also appears to be using Unity Hmmmm ... Do you use MalwareBytes anti malware by any chance ?
I have the correct open ports on firewall and router, but is not working anyway
Oh ok, I've actually pretty much fixed the issue now. Seems to be a combination of a few things for me. I had to quit Malwarebytes from running that then let me play around 5 out of 10 game attempts with no crash, I tried to make an exception for Uno, Steam and Ubisoft connect but it didn't work but quitting it made a 50% improvement.
After that and still not totally satisfied I did some more digging. I have found that the DEP is playing a part and you should go -
Control panel - System - Advance system settings - Click on settings in the Performance part (box at the top of pop up box) - Data Execution Protection, Now at this point all of mine was greyed out as I had disabled it, but if you re-enable (Can be a pain open CMD as admin and type bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn that worked for me after trying a few other commands and restart), then get back to the Data Execution Protection options again and you should be able to select the option -
"Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only".
Click apply then ok, restart and I had to quit Malwarebytes again, I have only had it crash back to desktop once in well over 10 games now, roughly speaking I would say that's a 90% improvement.
There is obviously something still clashing to do that single crash but it is a vast improvement from not being able to play at all.
I wonder if you disable/ quit windows antivirus ONLY for testing mind you and make sure you turn it back on when your finished, if it would make a difference for you and others ... maybe.
I know Malwarebytes takes over from the windows antivirus when its installed and running, so maybe my single crash was windows antivirus kicking back in after quitting Malwarebytes but I will need to test it for a longer period to see it happen again. I hope that helps you, if I find anything else out I will let you know.
To be totally fair, the Malwarebytes clash was something suggested by the Dev
Ubi-Chromosaurus that I have been chatting to from Ubisoft, its a known issue so I have been informed, so hats off to them for putting me on the right track after some time consuming trial and error methods from the other devs and having to upload multiple MSINFO and DXDIAGs removing monitors, clean booting drivers, re installing Visual C++, trying in Admin and a fair few other things that did not provide the results we were looking for.
It should definitely be added to the link that is posted everywhere the devs ask you to follow to begin with tho.
Fingers crossed this helps you and others as I know this is more frustrating than being dealt a +4 wild card when you are on your last card and its on your colour to play it :)
Its a bit of a tricky one tho, which may be why there is so much confusion and why so many others experience the same issue.
So No matter how many times you flick switches in the Winblows GUI it will NOT turn off Winblows Defender, even if it says it is off in the GUI and no matter how many or what exceptions you add it will NOT work and ALWAYS resulted in the game crashing back to the desktop for me.
The trick is you MUST disable defender through gpedit, as follows:
Search for gpedit.msc and click the top result to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
Browse the following path:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components >
Microsoft Defender Antivirus
Double Left click the Turn off Microsoft Defender Antivirus policy.
Select the Enabled option to disable Microsoft Defender Antivirus.
(Strangest thing I've seen in a while, you have to Enable to Disable it, I mean WTF Microsoft !)
Click the Apply button.
Click the OK button.
Try your game.
Note If you disable via the GUI, which I could not get to work anyway, every time I restarted the PC it automatically turns back on Defender as you can see, if you go back into the settings.
Winblows Defender does this to try and protect the end users but it also has the annoying side effect of thinking you have disabled it when it doesn't 100% disable it anyway, and after a restart it has automatically turned back on again. The only way I got it to work was to then follow the same procedure outlined above and then it works with out a crash to the desktop ... So far this afternoon.
As this crash does have the most annoying habit of coming back when you think you've nailed it, I will need to test it further and see if it does actually crash back to the desktop on me at some point.
If this does happen I will post again and say so if not assume this is a working method that I have found for my system and it is still working for me after multiple restarts of the PC, Uno the game, Steam and Ubisoft connect, since the date of this post (8/5/2021).
Fingers crossed this guide helps others experiencing this crash to desktop.
While I was doing all that stuff, was thinking about a solution to play multiplayer on split screen, something like Just Dance Controller but for Uno, an app where you can see your cards and play with 4 players using their smartphones (in case that no one has a Bluetooth controll, and the game Don't let you play with a controller and the keyboard and mouse or everyone with the same Controller). With this solution, the other players can't see your cards!! Just the droped cards con the screen. So, now I just want to create a discussion or a petition to Ubisoft, because doing that they can safe the game on PC, even on streamers to avoid the "stream sniping"
