Stuck in the forest.

Does anyone know the method for navigating the forest of lost souls? I keep going in circles and can't seem to find a path that leads through.

How to get captains attention?

How do I make the captain leave the roof? I'm clueless, he looks through the telescope and logic tells me that I have to do something outside town but as I said before I'm clueless D:
