If your game keeps crashing with a fatal graphic error when loading...
I bought this during the summer sale and kept trying to get it to work. Finally got it load up :D

Right click on the game exe file (I renamed mine to launcher.exe, not sure if that made any difference) and hit "Run in 640x480 screen resolution". Game finally loaded, once in the game I was able to adjust the resolution accordingly. Then you can exit the game and uncheck the 640x480 setting.

Hope that helps some of you!

That's a good walk-around! I'm sure that will be very helpful

This problem comes and goes for me. Just changing the screen resolution to a lower one (e.g. 1280x720) before I launch the game seems to fix the problem.

searched the web for hours and all that would run it, was using compatibility mode in shortcut properties. Yet that only played game in left hand corner window mode. So I read about lowering settings in the CFG file in steam/steamapps/common/Medievil II Total War. That did not help either, BUT raising them to 1920 1080 did!. Open the CFG file with notepad and look for campaign_resolution and change it to 1920 1080 and save. Clicked my exe and viola!. I was borderline ready to ask steam for a refund until I figured it out. Hope this helps guys, because I feel your pain. Also make sure to make a backup copy of your CFG file just in case this does not work for you.

Edit:This must also be done for battle_resolution. So to recap right click Steam and choose open file location. Once there go to steamapps/common/Medievil Total War II and look for a file medieval2.preference and open this with notepad. Look down the line until you see battle_resolution and change that to 1920 1080 or whatever your screen resolution is set at on your screen. Then under that look for campaign_resolution change that as well. My game has run flawlessly since (over a week now). Good Luck

@Nukecell YOU SIRE, ARE MY HERO! Ive tried everything in the book, and were just about to give up, but youre advice finally made it work. Thank a bunch!
I can't find neither files - i'm ABSOLUTELY sure i'm looking in the right folder - i even tried search - can't find either one... (hidden files are set to show) I had steam verify my game data and it turns up fine

help? :p

I'm sorry but there is no way I can simplify this any further. Read my post again. The files are there I assure you. This has worked for many people,as I have posted this to as many sites as I could find on the matter. I wish you luck, but the instructions I've given are precice and straight forward.

Ok, the trick is that the game must run once before the file appears. This I did not know until I had to do a full restore on my comp. So, to get it to appear you must run in compatibility with win8 or w/e OS you are using and run in 640x480. the game should now be windowed to your left. Just let the game start up and after it has gone to main screen exit and change back to normal compatibility. Now the CFG file should be there.

Damavikoff Jun 23, 2016 @ 12:22am
so "fatal graphics error" or 'unspecified error"
it's not the same.

Windows 10 works fine for me. whats the issue win10 people are having?
Gigantus Sep 9, 2017 @ 8:36pm
Tried this?

Steam just messed with me and invalidated my animation files. Run a game file verify as well, just in case.
