Console command issues (typing " closes console)
i've confirmed that ' opens my console in-game
unfortunately when i attempt to use quotation marks, it closes the window (" is on the same key as ')
what really befuddles me is the fact that " doesn't open the window, only closes it.
i've tried using the on screen keyboard in order to do this, but that did not work.
i've tried changing my keyboard language and locality in hopes that the tilde key would be used instead, this also did not work.
i've tried copying and pasting the quotation marks into the console (using keyboard shortcuts), and unsurprisingly, this did not work either.
is there any way to rebind the console key? the most helpful suggestion i've read so far is to look in the game files for the exact term used for each item, but i really would rather not go that far. also i've found some interesting lines in the "keys" file using notepad
(?) object_manager show_console S (pressing S does not bring up the console)
and for comparison, a line that is actually reflective of what is in game: finances_button B
if anyone has any knowledge on the topic, please share. speculation is welcome, but please make it clear that you are speculating and have no evidence.

I'm not sure how that ended up being your key, mine is ~.
Unless you have a modded game, try verifying cache.

I am aware that this discussion dates back to 2014. It is more than 6 years old now. But, for any future persons who might have the same problem, I just wanted to leave a solution: Add Russian keyboard to your keyboard languages. Afterwards, open the console when you're in Medieval 2 ("ME2"). Then, press Alt+Tab to bring the desktop up. Later, from the lower right part of the taskbard, change your language to Russian keyboard. Alt+Tab again to the game. You will find the console still open in ME2. Then, while pressing down the Shift button, press on the number 2 button. You will see that quote marks are being written on the console. Write two quote marks (one to open and one to close the quotation). Alt+Tab again, change your keyboard settings back to whatever is your original keyboard language, and Alt+Tab one final time to go back to the game. Afterwards, just use the left or right buttons to move the cursor before or after the quotation marks and write whatever codes you need. And write whatever names you need to write between quotation marks by moving the cursor with left and right buttons. I hope this will be of help to someone who experiences the same problem in the future.

Haven't seen this one before. Simply follow this tutorial to change the key assignment in the game for the console key: https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?635725
