Medieval Total War error-suffered a fatal error and will now exit
Every time I start Medieval Total War it just says "suffered a fatal error and will now exit". I played it before, but when I tried download Third Age it started happening. I have uninstalled everything, all my Total war games just in case, but only the Medieval doesn't work. I have Shogun and Napoleon and they both work. I have even installed the new launch on other threads but it still says the same thing.
Please someone help me, its a fun game I want to start playing it again :)

Are you sure your launch options are correct? By that I mean the option you see when you right-click Medieval 2 in your library, select Properties and your see something like "Select Launch Options." It causes a fatal error if that line is not blank.

I know this is a long time ago so hoping someone will see this but i'm having the exact same problem - what should the launch options be?
Captain_Jozef Mar 28, 2016 @ 4:52am
The launch options should be blank. Nothing should be written there. That helped this guy out, and I hope it helps you!

I am having the same issue. I checked the launch options and they are blank. Any help?

Are you trying to play a mod or the vanilla game?

I fixed it. Thanks, though.

Maybe you could explain how you fixed it, so that any future people will have a solution.

My computer failed to automatically update after the original download. After I opened the properties and verified the game cache, it all sorted itself out. I feel like a noob for not having checked that before posting my issue. BUT that's what worked for me, and it was a simple fix.

Yeah, verifying the game cache is the first step with almost every problem I have with Medieval 2, or any steam game for that matter.
