How I Installed Third Age (Third Age Installation Guide for steam users)
Hello all! THIRD AGE how I installed and all that stuff for steam. Moving on.

0.5. Backup your Medieval II folder. (Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > SteamApps > common > Medieval II Total War) I just copied and pasted it somewhere else. You don't have to do this, but I get paranoid sometimes. :P Comes with installing mods alot I guess. Again, this is optional.

1. Go to Moddb and install the appropriate files. (part 1 of 2, part 2 of 2, and the 3.2 patch if you want it) http://www.moddb.com/mods/third-age-total-war/downloads

2. Once the files finish downloading launch them. (they take a bit to load up) Do part 1 of 2 first, and then do part 2 of 2 when 1 of 2 is done)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The destination path should go to your Medieval 2: Total War folder in steamapps! NOT your mods folder!

LOCATION: Find your steam folder (should be in your C drive.) and then go to the SteamApps folder. From there open the common folder and then your Medieval II Total War folder.

Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > SteamApps > common > Medieval II Total War

Again, DO NOT set the destination to a mods folder! It creates it's own mods folder.

3. In your Medieval II Total War folder there should be a application/launcher that says "medieval2" (without the quotes) and it has the medieval 2 total war icon. Make a copy of it and rename the copy "kingdoms.exe" without the quotes.

A desktop shortcut should appear on your desktop. Use that to play.

Hope this helps. Hopefully I didn't forget anything. :/ I'll try to answer any questions.

EDIT: There are other ways to do this, but this is the way I did it. ALSO, you need to REMEMBER that Third Age is installed different than most other mods so I don't reccomend installing other mods the same way unless it says so.

EDIT 2: You don't need to delete and/or remove any of your other mods. And I can still play vannila M2TW with no problems.

HI everytime i try to copy the medevil total war 2 thing and try to paste it it says medevil suffered a fatal error
Have you got a more easier approach to follow as i have never used mods on a computer before or any gaming console
Okay i got passed all of that. It all went into the mods folder so i made another folder on the medevil thing. It came up with the third age shortcut on the desktop i also made a kingdoms.exe desktop shortcut and i have tried running that one and its the normal medevil. I then tried starting up the third age desktop item that appeared and it says it cannot find 'Windows cannot find 'kingdoms.exe' Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again?
Ty so much! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thrilled to nerd out on this one. Epic!

I have this exact same problem. Also, what do you mean by "it creates its own mods folder". When I downloaded all the parts for TATW, it didn't make its own folder. Do I need to make one and rename it "mods"?

When you install Third Age into the Medieval 2 folder, it'll automatically place itself in the mods folder (where the Americas, Tuetonic and Crusades campaign are installed). It will do so in a folder named Third_Age.

Second of all, you need to make a shortcut, no need to name it Kingdoms.exe because you can name it anything, I just give it the name of them of I want to use that shortcut with. What you'll want to do then. Is the following;

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=290002657

This guide is very simple to follow and does a very simple thing;
1) You won't have to fiddle around with the other campaigns
2) You'll be able to create multiple launchers for multiple mods, all in their seperate folder
3) By doing so, none of the mods will interfere with each other
4) If you want to get rid of a mod, it doesn't need a complete reinstallation of the game for any existing files that didn't get removed.

I followed your steps, and got nothing. There's even an icon on the desktop, which just launches vanilla M2TW. Even running the Third Age.bat opens up vanilla. AND I tried renaming the Third Age folder in mods to americas and launching through Steam.
Any thoughts?
Same for me. Now i can't play the Britainia Campaign or Third age.

Stop throwing mods into the kingdoms campaigns, if there's a sure way to ruin your game, it's doing that.

I managed to do it. What i did was put the third age mods in a seperate folder called Third age and then transffered the folder into the americas and renamed the orginal americas americas 2 and renamed the mods to Americas and i can now run it completely. There is a video on youtube that will show you how to do it the way i did.

If you install Third Age in its own folder, then there is no need to put it in any of the Kingdoms folders...When will you guys stop messing the game up with old outdated methods that are easily bypassed.

i downloaded it it works but crashes in battles plz help :steamsad:

Known bug.

Untick your daylight savings (windows calendar/time)
If its campaign, auto-resolve to continue
Change your lightning in the game
Check to see what the map is, mine tends to crash more on maps with water on it.
