Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Me little Stainless Steel 6.4 mod installing guide
Today (30.3.2015) I've started playing the Stainless Steel and encountered some problems with the Steam version of the game. Since the Steam version is slightly different from the ye'olde CD version I would like to compile some information here I've found on how to get the mod working.
Precondition: you own M2:TW AND (sine qua non) the Kingdoms DLC
In order to play the Stainless Steel mod (=SS) with the Steam version of M2:TW you have to...

I
  • Download version 6.3 of the mod here[www.twcenter.net]
You have to download 5 (five) *.bin-files and 1 (one) installer-file of the 6.3 verison. Σ=6 files.
II
  • Download the 6.4 version of SS here[www.twcenter.net]
II
  • Install SS 6.3.
  • The installer should find your Steam version/folder of M2:TW.
  • The following game setup is irrelevant at this point.
IV
  • Install SS 6.4. Again the installer should find your M2:TW Steam-folder and SS.6.3 sub dir.
  • Now read the explanations for the campaign setup and chose wisely.
  • Do not start the game/mod now for it will pop up an error message:
    "Could not find kingdoms.exe"
  • Be sure to chose the same language in the SS setup as you use for M2:TW in Steam. Differing languages (e.g. english : SS // german : game@Steam) will hinder you starting a campaign
V
  • Since the Steam version of the whole game was changed some time ago (they got rid of the pesky gamelauncher and reworked the file structure) there is no "Kingdoms.exe"
  • 1. Go to the game dir
    x:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War
and create a doublet of the
    "medieval2.exe"
  • 2. Rename the doublet:
    " medieval2.exe --> kingdoms.exe"
This will trick the mod into working.
This should be the basics for installing and playing the Stainless Steel mod which, if not obvious, I highly recommend to try out.

I've some troubles with installing SS6.4. When I start the SS6.3 Setup and begin the installation a error appears on the screen. The error says this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\default.cfg

An error occurred while trying to read the source file:
The source file is corrupted

Click retry to try again, ignore to skp this file (not recommended), or abort to cancel installation

Can someone help me?

Sometimes the download does not complete properly and some of the data may be missing, make sure you are downloading in Administrator mode with any anti-virus or spam filer switched off and retry. If you are running in Vista see my additional notes on the link I posted above.

Download again and reinstall once you are sure your original files are complete and correct. (Verify Game Cache to check vanilla files are complete and not causing the issue).

If you have installed other mods, they may cause issues with the inslall process if other core files have been modified. So the above will eliminate that potential problem.

Ensure the SS files are extracted to and located in the '\mods\americas' sub-folder of the Medieval II Total War directory.

Don't attempt to run V6.3 until you have added the patches and updates to V6.4

I would also guess it is a corrupted file. Maybe download again and/or from a different source.

Yes. I'm installing right now!

I've installed everything and renamed the SS map (in the mods) to 'americas'.
I can play it, but it is the 6.3 version.
