Non-Steam Kingdoms on Steam
Long time ago I bought the non-steam version of Medieval 2 TW Kingdoms and recently I bought the steam version of Medieval 2 TW. When I'm trying to install the non-steam addon onto my steam game the installer displays an error telling me I cannot do so. Is it possible to add my non-steam kingdoms to steam?

EDIT: The non-steam version of Kingdoms comes with no serial key ;/

I had trouble with this too, so I just purchased Kingdoms on Steam. I think there is a problem with integrating the expansion with the online version with Steam. The Steam versions are patched, so it's not surprising the disc isn't compatible.

It will work off-line as a PC desktop game however, but you won't be able to use it for OLBs or Multiplayer via a Steam account.

Always keep the disc copy. Some older mods run off the disc version, so you can still use them with a DVD Disc.

What I'm interested in here is whether I can convert my non-steam version to steam version. I know that you can insert the serial key of the base game into steam and get the steam version but is it somehow possible with the addon?

As I said, didn't work for me. Usually Steam expansions only work with Steam games. Maybe someone else had success with it. I didn't.

from the store page:

NOTE: Because the Kingdoms expansion uses core game elements from the Medieval II: Total War game, it is required that you use the same method for purchasing Kingdoms as you did in purchasing Medieval II: Total War. If you purchase Medieval II: Total War from Steam, then please use Steam to purchase Kingdoms.
No. Steam =/= non-steam, and if someone gets it to work they get a whole batch of cookies.

I hoped that maby creators of the game offer you a steam key if you bought the game previosly. I heard that in case of some games it applies.

They do.

It's called putting your medieval 2 CD key on steam.

Yeah I know you can put the key from the base game but kingdoms has no CD key with it.

Indeed. The good old Gold version of Medieval II doesn't contain any CD key at all.

Ok just to clarify, i have 2 copies maybe 3 of MTW2 cos it is the best so far by a country mile, sry to all the new empire engine fanboys. Yes i have shogun 2 and its a load of bollocks no matter how much you mod it, sry but that is the real truth.

Gold Edition Disk version of MTW2 and Kingdoms, the serial gives you both when you add to steam, that is for those that are not sure.

Med 1 was ♥♥♥♥, seriously don't waste your money on it if your thinking of it, med 2 was the solution because it was so bad. Sometimes i think the forums are full of peeps trying to sell something.

If your not then it's just imho ;)

Medieval II is currently half the price of Medieval I due to CA/SEGA / Steam marketing mess, so grab it while you can at 75% discount.

Seriously, if you don't have Medieval II or Kingdoms now is your time!!
