It is. I'll try to get a screenshot next time I defend a siege battle, but if you put " gate_defences 2" into the capacity slot of a wall or castle that supports it, you get the burning oil on enemies.
Granted, its not quite as generous as it was in Rome because most gate designs have a space big enough for a battering RAM to fit under, so it can't outright kill a unit with a battering RAM most of the time. However, the max amount of units it can kills seems to have increased, so you kill more guys as they attempt to swarm through the gate after its been rammed.
Could you give a bit more information on what lines to edit? Or does anyone have a guide that explains what exactly to do in export_descr_buildings?
Open export_descr_buildings in notepad.
Search for gate_defences.
Replace 1 with 2 for Stone walls and above.
It's harder for the enemy to aim up, plus they can duck back down to reload behind cover. Also they don't have to worry about cavalry and its much harder to hit them with melee infantry.
Hm. There is no "gate_defences" but "gate_strength", and that attribute is already 2 for large and huge stone walls, and fortresses and citadels. I suppose gate_strength is simply about gate strength, as there is no oil usage in those structures.
So should I add a new line that says "gate_defences 2" below the "gate_strength 2" lines?
My bad, I forgot gate_strength is how tough the gate is to take down with a battering ram or other siege weapons, while gate_defences is the oil. Yes, put gate_defences 2 below gate_strength, that should work.
Well, I'll update this when I test it on a new campaign.
Edit: Yep, seems it needs a new campaign (I haven't tested it but the fortresses and citadels have Boiling Oil on their cards in a new game, but not in save games)
It might need a new Campaign. Not entirely sure on that.
Edit: On reading some stuff on the internets, it seems like you might need Kingdoms in order to get this to work. If you don't have Kingdoms, there may be some other steps needed.
