Install/Run Kingdoms from M2 Gold Edition on CD (Not getting Kindoms options on launch)
his seems complicated. Someone please tell me it's not.

I recently bought the Total War collection on CD, which included M2 Gold. When I ran the setup on the Medieval 2 Gold Edition disc 1, it installed Steam, which I did not expect. Whatever, I let Steam run the install and have been playing the vanilla version with no problems.

I was thinking of installing Stainless Steel when I realized that I never got an option to install Kingdoms when I ran the install.

I've done some searching, and saw that I should get the Kingdoms options when I launch the game through the Steam client. Nope, vanilla M2 starts right up. I'm stumped. Can anyone help?

So you have Kingdoms, correct? Maybe find the store page for kingdoms and click install .. or something? I mean, it should be in your library if you have it, listed as DLC for Medieval II

Firstly, make sure the expansion isn't on disc 2 or something and still requires loading.

Secondly, verify your game cache by right clicking the game and selecting 'programs/local files/verify game cache' to upload steam patches. Then check and see if Kingdoms files are located in the Medieval II Total War folder under mods.

As you say, the options should appear when you select Medieval II Total War in the Steam game starter, a second sub-menu should appear there.

I found out that this is indeed the problem. I was able to uninstall and reinstall directly from the CD. The install never asked for disk 2, so I assume Kingdoms is there. But the plot thickens. There's no exe files on disk 2. There are 14 files, either csm or csd files, and one named sku.sis. Never ran across a disk like this.

Neither have I, sorry. speak to someone with this version of the game and compare notes.

Don't know if you ever sorted this out, but you need to insert disc 2 and add each campaign individually. Open (for example) Britannia folder, double-click on the setup icon and it will prompt you to uninstall, once done double-click on the icon again and install.
