Try :

for a 'no cd' patch.
You install as normal, install the patch and no longer need to insert the disc to play.
'and the Crusades campaign wont install due to the state of the 2nd disc'
Try a disc polisher(about £10-15), unless it has deep scores, that recovers most discs.
I had Rome, Barbarian invasion and Medeival... but through steam I got all the free expansions.
Is there any difference between the boxed gold edition and the definitive edition ?
I've been using an ancient install on a slave drive for many years. It's just a pain to load the dvd. Then again I have other games not redeemable on steam that also require discs.
I don't really want to use cracks as the new code has a propensity to make games more unstable and potentially hinder performance.
One reason why I am hesitant to redeem it on steam, is that my install has been extensively modded and tweaked, meaning I'd need another separate install from steam and redo all the work.
You will have to reinstall it regardless for the Steam version, even if you already have it installed.
Ahh ok. I guess there is no real point in redeeming it. Maybe I should just try to make a 1:1 image file so I can play without the disc. Right now I have a dvd-rom drive hanging out of the side of my case lol.
Yeah, I wish there were more options for modern cases with drive bays. I totally regret buying this NZXT case for that reason. I also have a HDD sitting on a foam block under my GPU because it won't fit anywhere else..
Luckily I have a Cosmos II case, but the system inside has issues. My new build will definitely be going inside it.
