talk to the game company if you think you have a legit key that is not honoured, steam can't help
I also suggest you search the official technical support forum for Total War Eras games (including Medieval 2 Total War), and if you don't find your answer there, then I suggest you start a new thread there:

I brought the version of this game under the "five stars" brand. When I saw the words in tiny letters "requires internet connection" on the box when I brought it home my heart sank.Turns out it was a scam by Valve, you only get one product key for a physical copy of a game. It is just digital download so you are just buying a bit of paper with numbers on it, if you use the key the disk is WORTHLESS. If you buy the default Medieval 2 gold (not the "five stars" junk) you get to install it on as many computer as you like, no hassel, no BS. These online only installs are nothing more than a scam and a greedy way to rip people off and make things difficult for paying customers.
This is a good example of the greed rampant in Valve (hail gaben the greedy.) and the steam system, giving a product key with a one use CD, but that is no supprise from a company who has phased out physical copys of games under the guise of making games cheaper and more acessible, when really all they have done is raise prices sky high and cut costs for game devlopers. I fist started seeing this sort of thing being pulled by Ubisoft back in the day, but Valve has grabbed hold of this idea and held on tight.
I will be giving this game a negitive review in future because of the worthless CD that has been sold to me that I cannot re-use, single use digital download in a CD is a scam, plain and simple.
Sorry for the rant. :p
