That is a great idea to tell Creative Assembly (the game company that makes Total War games) for a future game. You could write to them here:
https://www.facebook.com/CreativeAssembly/
Your best bet is to play in hotseat and select two factions, then you can play them both as allies or whatever you choose.
You can only create an A/I alliance with marriage, you don't get to control them unless you inherit the kingdom through the Queen surviving the rest of the family tree, but I have never seen that work.
The only reason I haven't done this so far it's because I can't play the newest games (craptop) and I thought Creative Assembly would have already done this on their most recent games, unless it wouldn't fit the diplomacy mechanics.
Faction defeated.
...
Yeah, but you can roleplay taking it over I guess, if you dont get caught up to that point you can freely with no diplomatic penalty and with great ease take any rebel holdings Scotland had, so you can pretend you inherited the crown but the native lords said nah...
Yes, just take over their lands :P
Basically. Though you can always buy the land. Suprisngly easy to do. I usually buy most of France early in the game from the French and the English (if I'm not one of those two).
Offer 'em anything "Very Generous" then ask for a city in return :P
Sounds like the Mongol tactic. They made factions their vassal then took 'em out.
Worked for Russia. Poland, Hungary, very nearly Turks (one city left), and they managed to smash through nearly all of the Holy Roman Empire. :P
