2. Do you have troubles with general speeches or with silent units too?
2. i hear the units (i think) and i wouldnt care if i would not. but i just want hear my general at the beginning... i see him with his "speech animation" after some sekonds, but he says nothing =(
Solution (or apologies) coming soon.
edit:
wehn i copie my sound-fieles from medieval 2 (disk-version) in the data/sounds in steam, the game will not start
when i copie my sound files from medieval 2 in the data/sounds too the kingdomkampaigns in steam/mods like "amerika" "teutonik" etc... it starts, but do nothing/no general sound.
this "solution" was descriped in post 11
edit2: my english is superbad (also my understanding of computer-basics), i couldnt understand what u have done in post 5...

it's an archive. two files inside: events.dat and events.idx
copy them to \Medieval II Total War\data\sounds\ folder. (replace original files). Should work now.
Did you try to replace all files or only some of them?
ure files was the solution, i can now hear the general speach in german ! :D
much thanx! kisses!!! xD
edit: i replaced all. but again, im realy dump, mayby i do it wrong... i needed 5 houres yust 2 unzip your files. and jeas, u did it super-easy 4 me, sry...
Big thanks man.
it's a bit more complex, i think
descr_sounds_accents.txt --> move factions, remove missing accents or don't touch, if you will update audio files links for existing accents
------------------------------
descr_sounds_db.xml --> set factions which don't have appropriate pre battle speeches lines (for example, English accent in russian version does not have any extended speeches, only [English_One_Liner_*.mp3]s) or don't change in order to bring some chaos into export_descr_sounds_prebattle
------------------------------
export_descr_sounds_prebattle.txt --> remove missing accents or change prefixes, remove pieces of code for the files which are not presented or update them to use existing files (for example, set pre battle speeches from Mediterranean accent for english generals)
------------------------------
export_descr_sounds_soldier_voice.txt --> remove missing accents or change prefixes
------------------------------
export_descr_sounds_stratmap_voice.txt --> remove missing accents or change prefixes
------------------------------
export_descr_sounds_units_battle_events.txt --> remove missing accents or change prefixes
------------------------------
export_descr_sounds_units_voice.txt --> replace unit's audiofiles prefixes (mostly related to faction's specific units like hungarian hussars, for example), move unit's related sections, remove missing accents or just change prefixes for existing accents
'change prefixes'means change 'East_European_' and 'Scottish_' to 'English_' and 'Mongolian_' to 'Arabic_'
export_ files should be checked twice to ensure that all audio files mentioned there are presented inside voice packs and match their names.
manual manipulations, if required (Arabic accent, for example, have no Muslim_Enemy_General_Killed notifications which are presented for Mongolian accent)
i think it is possible to make a single proper fix for any non-english version of the game.
i can be wrong, but english version might have some problems too (do you have victory or retreat voices for a german admiral?)
did CA / STEAM fix this problem?
the game feels very soulless without the general-speech at start of the battle + stoneage graphic. i think this problem is important and dont need a "super definitive edition" for a fix.
Believe me, that's all there is to it - once you change the accent allocation of the mute faction in descr_sounds_accents everything else falls in line - in every single one of the files you list otherwsie.
